So I need a British passport to come to London for Xmas?

Just showing off now, I'm lucky to last 30 seconds these days.
I was being ironically gammon...Plus a choice of Apple or Samsung phone. Free healthcare (with priority over the natives) English language lessons. Top tier protection from our police. Play table top games all day. The list could go on and on.
Ahh well, they are fleeing war torn France after all....
First passport. Applied for from outside the UK ?
OP isn’t clear. Seems like he’s on about a first passport too as they won’t issue visas hence the right to abode fall back. Ultimately it’s a non issues for him as he has a Swedish passport
Also how’s he gonna fly into the uk to pick up a passport. This is the same passport he needs to enter the uk

Yes my UK passport ran out in 2023.
I've been using the Swedish one in preference to the UK on every trip we've taken. Mostly Europe and USA. Much more convenient that me and Mrs efour go through same processes, join the same queues etc etc, as both Swedish citizens.
It honestly came as a complete suprise that I'd ever need a uk passport again, especially to visit but it is what it is.
It might be a weird decision, and potentially, not too smart but after beginning to reapply it says I need to return the old UK passport.
Right now their is a grace period where they seem to be giving a lot of leeway to idiots like me at passport control.
I will 100% renew the passport before leaving Sweden via online application and then have an application number, travel to the UK using the Swedish ETA passport, then post it in from the UK. I have 90 days to return it before the application is nullified. No. Problem.
If I don't get stopped at customs. I'm in and I can start stealing your deliveroo jobs and NHS services.
If I do I can show the old passport and explain the situation and basically blag it like the cockney rascal I am.
It's not a great plan but Ive already got 4 international flights and a 7 day cruise booked on the Swedish passport and its only entry to uk that's an issue. Only
I'll have the new passport in Jan 26 and it'll sit in my cupboard until I next go to London.
This doesn't sound unreasonable to me. Maybe foolish but hey it's me.
Literally the biggest idiot I know.

Edit the only thing really allowing me to think this way is reading about how much slack they are cutting people, and the total apathy of UK workers.

Dude, you're overthinking it. You can travel on any damn valid passport to get into the country. When at immigration, explain who you are. job done.
Example. Wife, dual passport holder (US and British) stupidly "lost" her British passport prior to a trip the US. Travelled to and from using her US passport. Explained the situation at immigration and was allowed to enter. Have a photo of your old passport and know your social security etc. British immigration do not refuse entry to verified British citizens irrespective of how they entered the country.

We let basically anyone in, it seems.
I let my British passport lapse. I travel on a NZ passport these days which appears to be consistently ranked higher for travel than a UK passport anyway. Since we have no current plans moving back, it can stay lapsed.
Had to do some online travel thing when we went to the UK in February and it took all over 5min and cost a couple of bucks. I'm fine with that.

I am confused how can he not enter the UK? He can just say he is on holiday then pick up his passport and job done.
This is 100% accurate if i travel on my Swedish one, but in future it states if you are a dual citizen you have to enter on your uk one and can't apply for an ETA on the Swedish. Therefore we have to have a uk passport or a certificate in your other countries to show the right to abode in the UK.

I got an Irish passport as my mother is Irish, although I've lived here all my life and also have a British passport.
Irish passport is the most powerful in the UK, because there is a special arrangement where and Irish citizen has every single right in the UK as British, claim benefits, access NHS, whatever, but then obviously you are also European, so can travel around/work etc.
Right now there is no need, but I'm thinking of the **** starts hitting the fan, and the way this government is going, there is nothing stopping me renouncing myself as British.
Both my brothers got one as well.
Hmm, I didn't know that. Weird how the entire UK stopped existing for me once I left. I'll have to look into whether it's useful to remain a British citizen in the long run. Renouncing seems a bit extreme too.
Unless you are 100% sure you are not going to want to come back then spending £100 or so once every ten years isn't a terrible thing to do.
