I don’t know if it just me getting old and I never noticed it before but it seems like there a lot of young people these days that just don’t want to work plus it also seems like a lot of kids these days just don’t want to go to school

Why should they if they don't want to and can survive without it. The majority know the ladder has been drawn up and they will never get a house for example.
Not everyone wants to be a worker ant in the system making rich people richer.
Roll on UBI I say. :D

I have mixed feelings on it. Yes, some young people may lean toward gaming, comfort, or shirking responsibility but I don’t think that’s the full explanation. A lot of this comes from hopelessness when young people look ahead, they often see a harsh reality, high unemployment or underemployment, precarious contracts and huge barriers to owning a home.

The labour market is tougher for new entrants than it was for past generations. Competition is fierce and employers are increasingly demanding more experience and the range of skills that the 'jack of all trades' approach implies.

Housing costs and property to income ratios make it difficult for many to imagine ever owning a home. When your efforts don’t seem to promise a better life, pride or a sense of self worth can erode.

So, yes, some people may prioritise ease over effort, but I suspect that many are overwhelmed by structural forces that make genuine advancement seem unattainable.

How's UBI going to be funded?

Don't blame them tbh. lousy pay, threatened to work unpaid overtime, treated like crap, abused by managers and general public, told to break health and safety regulations putting myself and others at risk (and risk of legal action against me) lying about work entitlement, preferential treatment of managers over workers, promotion promises which is just a big lie so you do everything whilst they sit in the office playing games and all the risk and responsibility is on you, they get the bonus you don't.

Fair play to them I say

Saying people "don't want to work", is actually putting it too nicely. Most people want things from other people yet do not want to offer anything in exchange. (Or at best, only offer what they think other people's effort is worth).

If you want something from me, we both must come to some sort of agreement on what will be exchanged for what.

If we are unable to come to an agreement, then we will not exchange anything with each other.

"But I need _x_." Well, then you "need" to offer other people something *they* value in exchange. (Unless you decide to produce _x_ yourself)

Jesus, I wouldn't want to work where you do!! Where I work people get away with avoiding work all the time. The majority just play the "mental health" card so they cant even be challenged.

What the other side are offering in this exchange(the employers) is not good enough. Poor wages, high housing costs. Literally the outlook for most of these young people is being a wage slave and still not managing to buy a house. The system is fundamentally not working for a lot of them. But older people had it a lot easier and are comfortable already in their homes so they don't care.

oh what he did was sackable 10x over...tons of other stuff physically assaulted by store manager..him deleting that footage..including the area managers that they do indeed discriminate against people with disabilities. Constant threats, him ripping off customers sabotaging their items to rip them off even more..

thankfully now managers like that and the British companies are now paying my benefits and tbh not much worse off financially plus no stress, not working 5-7 days a week .:D

Don't forget those 'zero hour contracts'

Consider an individual who wants to sit on his ass and still have food, water, shelter, a PS5, a flat screen TV etc.... All of the things that individual wants come from other people, yet he's not offering those people what they want in exchange for those things. (Or in this example, he is offering nothing)

remember other workers and managers hiding in toilet or office whilst I do the delivery. I soon had enough of that, I stopped working and say "well I'll continue whilst you get out of the toilet that you've been playing phone for 30 minutes"

So much stuff...wouldn't believe it.

Yup I had one of those, although it worked for me as I had other permanent job was doing so many hours another contract wouldn't have worked so a zero hour contract was just casual hours if I was in town, finished a shift in the other job so popped over for a few hours, and got free food whilst I was there. No way would I solely rely on zero hour contract.

I hire a lot of apprentices/recently qualified trades. Theyre shocking. Absolutely shocking. How most of them have passed the courses leading to that point is beyond me. Lazy doesn't begin to cover it. The other thing is stupidity, they just seem to have no common sense!
Can tell with a lot of them its a result of being over-babied by their parents.

Currently got one lad who i took on 7 years ago, hes now 28, still at home and still brings in a packed lunch that his mum makes for him every day. He can't use a washing machine. His dad still sorts his car tax and insurance.

Well I don't know how it works in SW Florida, but it's prefectly possible to have all that here without working.

We had one person couldn't even use a screwdriver LOL. Totally useless. Also where my brother works the person didn't know how to screw in a bolt, clockwise/anti clockwise.

And the job I had in had so called trained people who were dangerous and totally clueless putting general public lives at risk.

He's probably giving his mum 20 quid a week and is loaded though. :p
