I think it's possible to eventually get to a point where you can get paid to do something you enjoy, or at least don't hate, but most of us start with no skills or experience and therefore must do things we don't want to do so we can get things we want. I assume OP means mindset rather than people not actually in employment and training but yeah, it's been trending down for years outside of the covid spike. AI, NI tax increases, and the general awful state of the world economy has caused mass layoffs and lead to the slight increase in the last year or two.What are you defining as "young" here? Why should they if they don't want to and can survive without it. The majority know the ladder has been drawn up and they will never get a house for example.
Not everyone wants to be a worker ant in the system making rich people richer.

When they see people earning great livings by playing games and being 'Influencers' im not surprised they dont want to be sat in an office for 8hrs a day or doing back breaking work on a construction site.I don’t know if it just me getting old and I never noticed it before but it seems like there a lot of young people these days that just don’t want to work plus it also seems like a lot of kids these days just don’t want to go to school
