Do lots of young people not work these days ?

Anyone who actually wants to work is an absolute freak.

depends on the job.

The job I did I was great in it, I knew what I was doing. Pretty crap pay, but it was easy and because I knew was I was doing I could do it in my sleep. Like someone was doing a task for 6 hours failing badly, I walked up and fixed it in 15 seconds. haha

Of course other workers/managers ****** off because they needed me more than I needed them - that's always a good thing to have. If you're easily replaceable or it's unskilled job you are thrown away.

This is a good point. I think it's possible to eventually get to a point where you can get paid to do something you enjoy, or at least don't hate, but most of us start with no skills or experience and therefore must do things we don't want to do so we can get things we want. (At least we start that way)

A relevant article I was reading earlier

Wealth gaps are "entrenched", it said, meaning that who your parents are - and what assets they may have - is becoming more important to your living standards than how hard you work.

What are you defining as "young" here? ONS figures on NEETs (Not in Education, Employment or Training) for 16-24 year olds say it has risen recently to about 13% but that's still well down on the about 17% it was in 2011.

I assume OP means mindset rather than people not actually in employment and training but yeah, it's been trending down for years outside of the covid spike. AI, NI tax increases, and the general awful state of the world economy has caused mass layoffs and lead to the slight increase in the last year or two.

Records of people complaining that the youth of today are lazy go back about as far as we have written records at all.

I noticed wages haven't increased but the cost of living has, plus the personal tax allowance hasn't gone up, it's stayed the same. So you have to work more hours to live, so will be over the first tax bracket.

Why should they if they don't want to and can survive without it. The majority know the ladder has been drawn up and they will never get a house for example.
Not everyone wants to be a worker ant in the system making rich people richer.
Roll on UBI I say. :D

Are you happy to pay for their state supplied housing and benefits?

I don’t know if it just me getting old and I never noticed it before but it seems like there a lot of young people these days that just don’t want to work plus it also seems like a lot of kids these days just don’t want to go to school
When they see people earning great livings by playing games and being 'Influencers' im not surprised they dont want to be sat in an office for 8hrs a day or doing back breaking work on a construction site.
