If it really was in mass production there would be a lot of verifiable photos of hardware, and a lot more exact information about the specs, and as far as i can see there is nothing concrete, it's all just youtube click bait at the moment.

If it was bundled with HL Alyx 2 as an exclusive for a short time, it would definitely sell more.
 
We had photos of pre-release Index headsets before release. No images so far of Steam Frame, just references in patents and in Steam VR.

That's why I said "apparently" as we have nothing concrete yet. It's all speculation
 
Last time i touched VR was the OG Vive. I tried a bunch of games and the Steam VR demo thing was cool but felt tech/games needed to mature so sold it.

10 years later I'm ready to jump back in to see how its going. A new PC with Valve Frame and HL3 will be a nice start.

If its under £1k and spec looks good I'm in day 1.

I have bought/played less and less games over last few years. VR might be a nice change of pace.

It looks like you are going to be 0 for 3. :p

The Steam Frame, Valve Deckard or whatever it's called, is still nothing more than a rumour. There is zero hard evidence that a headset is coming anytime soon.

HL3 is even more of a rumour than the their VR headset.

Will be very surprised if it's under £1K.

So if you are ready to jump back into VR and you are waiting until Valve's next headset to make that jump, then pull up a chair and relax, you could be waiting quite a long time!!

I would say get a meta quest 3 (the full fat not the s personally )and half life Alyx to get your half life itch. ..

you should get a good deal around now (Amazon prime week)
 
To have any level of interest for me at this stage in the game, it has to be the following...

1. OLED
2. OLED
3. OLED
4. You get the idea

From what I've seen online so far, opinions seem to be the chances of it being OLED are very slim.

I'm not 100% convinced that OLED is as good as people say it is.

The last OLED headset I tried was the PSVR2 which people raved about but the mura and smearing and general blurriness were so bad I got rid of it. The tiny sweet spot and lack of comfort were factors too.

The newer MicroOLED displays are better but they have significant issues when paired with Pancake Lenses as they simply aren't bright enough, due to pancake lenses absorbing a lot of light, plus you do get some smearing.

I do think QLED with local dimming works pretty well as a compromise, as long as there are enough dimming zones. They can be super bright, have no mura, and the colours really pop. The only real issue is the dimming glow around bright objects on a dark background, but again this is mitigated with more zones.
 
The brightness of OLED coupled with pancakes does worry me I must admit. I've not experienced it yet but such headsets only hit about 120nits max I think.

I've got a Crystal Light and a PSVR2. The mura on the PSVR2 is nothing to do with OLED as such - it has a very odd sub pixel setup and 'filter' on the PSVR2. The brightness of PSVR2 is also amazing (about 280nits) due to fresnel lenses allowing way more light through.
The Crystal Light is miles better in the obvious clarity ways, and lack of mura, and the brightness is decent (about 200 nits I think?). But local dimming technology/ miniLED is just awful compared to OLED and the true blacks achieved. So much so I flip between each headset depending on the game now. Any 'dark' games and it just has to be OLED for me, even with the PSVR2's shortcomings and lower res/ clarity.

I'm Still waiting for the almost perfect OLED headset to arrive that doesn't cost stupid money. I thought the Deckard might be it, but it's looking doubtful. Hope to be surprised though....
