Imgur has blocked the UK

Tbh I've never really thought about it and rarely post images on here anyway (have mostly used imgbb, didn't realise about the bandwidth restrictions...)
I'm already paying for a static IP and have a NAS that I could run a container from, so probably not a big deal to set something up. (just domain/dns/vpn... and could probably use a free vpn)
With Cloudflare Tunnels you don't even need a static IP.

Now explain how to do all this to the average non tech forum user who needed a detailed walkthrough on how to use Imgur after Photobucket went.

Great for the more tech DIY inclined on a forum like this one, a non starter basically everywhere else. Copy pasting BBcode from one website to another is about the technical limit of a lot of users.
Agreed, but this is also the problem of people blindly relying on public cloud based services. If the past two decades has thought us anything, it's that cloud hosted platforms can and have bitten the dust out of nowhere.

The world has got a lot more violent since the 90s.
It strange how it got worst.

As i can still remember in the early to mid 80's when i could just walk into a local shop and buy a set of throwing knifes, highend slingshots, air pistols etc when i was around the age of 13

Decided to test using an embedded image from OneDrive.
It's quite annoying the imgur isn't available in the UK.

And it won't leak your home IP address as users will only see a Cloudflare IP.

And you'll probably benefit from requests from users in other countries going through their closest Cloudflare PoP (Point of Presense) making it a bit faster for them.

We used to make our own catapults (1960's), whittling a suitable branch and buying 1/4" elastic and finding a piece of leather. Now the police want them banned.

I have recently bought a victorinex Swiss army knife from an antique shop for whittling purposes.

Exactly, use nice free cache.

I don't know what's going on, but i noticed this morning that all my images posted in the "Post Your Home Cine & HiFi Kit" thread are now visible.
I suspect that OCUK might have found a work round to make this possible @Feek ? I still get the "Content not available in your region." when i go direct to the lmgur site, so this must be something that OCUK has done or lmgur have changed the implementation of the block.

It was totally Feek (or the elves working on his behalf while he took the credit, as usual) :)

I believe a process was run to convert all existing Imgur-hosted images to attachments on the forum.

Yup, it was this. All imgur hosted images were converted to attachments so we don't lose any history. We're looking to see if it can be done with signatures as well but they're handled differently so it may not be possible.

@kindai did all the work, pedalling extra fast :)

Is this an ongoing thing or just historic? Gotta be a but if a bump in bandwidth even for the historic option.

:edit: very nice by the way! Certainly not Groce™

I noticed this in my bike project thread and just wanted to say thanks. I'd have been quite disappointed if all that was lost.

Really grateful that you guys managed to at least get the historic images back up.
I just did a test post from a flickr account i set up earlier. I used the BBcode to post here and it works fine. Is that in line with the rules for pics @Feek ?

Edit: just changed that from BBcode to URL insert, much better.

To anyone deciding to self-host their own pictures now, do make sure you have a reliable backup. Would suck if you had an issue and ruined all your own hosted pics.

Nice work Feek!

I'll be doing something similar to @ChrisD. soon I think. The world of the internet really does seem quite poor these days when you look back at how good we had it in the late 90s/early 2000s.

Tried S3ND & Freeimage.host and both worked fine except S3ND doesn't currently allow private posts.

So getting up votes and 2 comments on a lagged hot water cylinder pic from my heat pump install was a bit weird :)
