I haven’t been paying attention to this, but might give it a whirl. I’ve quite enjoyed Lower Decks and that is about as far away in tone from TNG that you can get.
Nothing is going to ‘out-TNG’ TNG, anything similar is going to be lesser, so I’d rather something fresh. I quite like the ‘juniors climbing the ladder’ vibes of Lower Decks so maybe that will appeal here, dunno.
What puts me off from the trailer (a bit) is how stylised, slick and ‘cinematic’ looking it is. I guess it has to cater to a modern audience who likes things shiny but I immediately think ‘hollow’ / ‘forced bombast’.
But some young hopefuls navigating life stuff and star fleet training with comradery and conflicts… I can get on board with that.
Oh… and Picard’s dressing down of Crusher for ‘lying’ at the academy tribunal… gives me the judders just thinking about it. Epic scene!
