Everyone talks about OLED burn in but what about scratches?

I'm looking at buying a new OLED monitor and just learned that QD OLED is very prone to scratches. This has put me right off QD OLED's. Are WOLED's more resistant and does anyone know how the new tandem OLED's will be regarding scratches whilst cleaning?

I've seen lots of user reports of the same, specifically focused on QD-OLED which seems to have a "softer" coating. But for what it's worth, in all my usage and testing of QD-OLED monitors I've never personally experienced or seen any issues with this. I've also received various review samples of screens over the years which have been round the houses with other reviewers, and show no signs of issues. I'm not denying some people have problems, but if you're careful with the screen I don't see this as being a problem myself

My OLED is 2.5 years old with lots of use, the only gripe is when you look at the screen when its turned off on a sunny day! Goddamn smudges!

I bought a bottle of Pixel Natural Cleaner Spray on the basis of loads of great reviews. My experience on this monitor an Alienware DWF, it was not great but works well on my TV's. I have some very fine scratches, or swirls, like car paint, you only notice when the sun catches your car paintwork in a certain position.

None of the above impact day to day operation and I would still recommend a OLED in a heartbeat!

I've been using a QD-OLED for years now, not sure what you would have to do to scratch it during 'normal' use and cleaning, if you clean it it with a brillo pad ...sure, or let your cat use it as a scratching post. But all in all I think you'll be fine.

A lot of people are reporting it is very easy to scratch the coating on QD-OLED.

I have been using my OLED monitor for 18 months. Never had to wipe the screen a single time. It just doesn't seem to attract dust for some strange reason!

If I did need to wipe it I would just use a clean deep pile microfibre cloth, which is what I use on my OLED TV, never have I scratched any screen using this method. Any screen is going to scratch if you dont look after it.

Here is an account of someone using the Microfibre cloth supplied with the monitor:

I had some spit marks on my brand new AW3225QF so I used some distilled water sprayed on a brand new microfibre cloth. I've been doing it this way with so many different monitors. Including other OLEDs.

This is my first glossy display though... The spit marks easily came off but then there were these smudges that I just couldn't get rid of??? Only visible with a light shining on the display but wtf?

Did some googling and decided to try the microfibre cloth that was in the box. I very gently rubbed the smudges with no liquid and ALAS, they went away. They're completely gone. All 3 of em but now I have microscratches all around the areas of the smudges....

This panel is made out of paper wtf.

That thread is full of people saying similar with plenty other threads stating the same. Seems a very widespread problem.

Using too much pressure with the microfibre cloth can cause issues. Just use it gently. Or a good soft, lint free cloth...

I am sure most people reporting these problems are being gentle. There is clearly a difference between cleaning QD-OLED's vs other monitor types.

No. I have seen people aggressively cleaning monitors both oled and ordinary ones! You think they were trying to sand them!

you have to be really careful, it's not like toughened anti scratch glass on a OLED, I think scratched mine a bit. It's probably quite soft glass.

wasn't pressing down hard. I guess you want to coat the screen with "snow foam" type thing let it soften whatever is on there, then pressure wash it off ;)

Hairline scratches are possible and only visible when the screen is black and you have a light source behind you, this mostly comes down to the cloth you use to wipe with, a year later my QD-OLED has zero hairline scratches as I use the same soft MF cloth to wipe any time and nothing else touches the screen.

Probably less robust to people who don't have mechanical sympathy so to speak than common alternatives - I rarely have a reason to get anywhere near the surface of my displays and when I do I use proper cleaning wipes (such as Zeiss) with a proper spray (even when using moist wipes).

Probably like I see at work, people working in the same environment and some people manage to keep their phones pristine, others end up scratched to pieces within days.

My qd oled is much harder to clean than my woled. It is the worst i've had. Not the biggest problem. Around micro scratches even using a microfibre: I feel it is like mobile phones. Friends will tell me their phone has 0 scratches and i believe they don't notice them, however i see it covered with micro scratches. I think the point i am making is depending on your lighting, and if you are a person who sees them easily, the qd definitely has them over time. For some it is a non issue, to others they will notice them.
