The rise of Ozempic

I'm a tight northener, I don't want to be paying for anything unless I have to, £200 per month on a jab, this was my last resort for sure :p

There are ways and means to make a pen last longer than a month. However, the last thread got locked when this got discussed.

You can also use monj.co.uk to find the current best deal on pens, you can also use friends referral codes for cash off. I have a couple of codes, i think Juniper and Numan were offering over £100 off for new customers.

Well that's my point, rather than worry about 'what happens if I get hungry and I don't have a jab to suppress it?', I make sure what i'm eating doesn't consistently leave me feeling hungry.

I don't just eat empty calories until I hit 1500 and then sit feeling like i'm starving for the rest of the day (which is what would happen if I didn't change the things I ate), I deal with 'feeling hungry' by eating food that helps stop that happening in the first place, even though i'm in a calorie deficit.

It's infinitely easier to have the 'willpower' to plan out some good food for the week/day when you're not already hungry, than try to deal with the effect of being hungry later, then you don't find yourself needing that willpower to not eat when you're hungry.

Even the people with the best willpower in the world are going to have a miserable time if they let themselves constantly feel hungry because they've eaten empty calories and nothing they're eating makes them feel full. This is probably a big part of why some people find it easier than others to rely on 'willpower' - if your diet is mostly whole foods and you feel full and satisfied after even smallish portions, then you don't need much in the way of willpower anyway, because there's less of a feeling to fight against.
Its about food noise. Some people just dont have it and cant understand those that do.
My cycle from food entering my mouth to exiting my body is around 13 hours. So i empty pretty quick so the food noise returns at a pace. Some people can feel full for a lot longer.

Both Myself and the OH can eat exactly the same meal but I will be hungry again much sooner than the mrs.

I used to feel the same until I changed what I was eating rather than just how much of it. The 'food noise' is massively reduced for me with a better diet.

When I had a 'typical' lunch of sandwiches, crisps, chocolate bar etc. then i'd barely make it to 3pm before I was desperate for something else to eat. Now i've more often been eating a large salad (but not just leaves, grated carrots etc.) with a decent portion of chicken and i'm fine until 6pm or so when it's time for an evening meal anyway, no intrusive food thoughts along the way. I could eat a fairly sizeable dinner and be hunting the kitchen for snacks by 9pm but that's massively improved now too, even though i'm eating about 1000 calories less per day than I was this time last year.

The jabs will let you carry on eating what you're used to eating at reduced quantities without feeling hungry, most 'willpower people' i'd wager are helped along by giving themselves a head start and eating the sorts of foods that help them feel fuller for longer.

If you suffer from the food noise problem and don't change anything at all, whether it's a jab or a different diet, then all the willpower in the world to simply try and eat less isn't likely to work for anyone, you'll just feel miserable and hungry all the time.

There's a huge psychological part to it, I got fat (80KG to 106KG during Covid lockdown), suffered from depression, marooned in a foreign country and ended up being medicated on anti-depressants, (boy do those make you put the weight on..) I looked like a bag of ****, felt like a bag of **** and just kept regressing into food.

Post covid I really really struggled to lose it, I tried so hard - but I just kept failing. The jab allowed me to actually make some good progress easily and get 'unstuck from the mud' so to speak, I dropped from 106KG to 82KG and I look great again and feel great.

The key for me is a combination of things;
  • The jab creates very real, measurable palpable progress and that creates confidence - which leads to a more positive outlook.
  • I have a professional PT who's been teaching me diet, (as well as physical exercise).
  • I have self value again, the jab has not only helped with food addiction, but I actually value myself as a person now, and don't just feel like a degenerate.
I'm off mounjaro now, and for me - the key is to stick to what i've been taught, stay active and use the knowledge I've obtained from my PT and nutritional guides - whilst being always aware of the slippery slope lurking around the corner.

c4 article on fake weight loss drugs - pre-trial versions of a new one

(at start I had confused the doctor as a scam victim too)

Retatrutide isn’t a ‘fake weight loss drug’. There may be fake versions of it but it is a real thing. It works the same as Tirzepatide (mounjaro) plus has a glucagon agonist that increases your BMR without stimulant effects.

Google “pubmed retatrutide”. Below is just one example:

It’s in last stages of approval in the FDA in USA, it will be available in 2026/7 and subsequently the UK I am sure.
