New thermometer, old one is missing, plus it uses a 9v battery which is super annoying as I don't have any spare lol.

Photo of Diddums I snapped using his webcam after he fell for an email advertising blue pills:
how does that even work? how can you tell temp without contact and just by looking at it?!![]()

Infrared measures temperature by detecting the heat (thermal radiation) an object emits, focusing it with a lens onto a detector called a thermopile, and converting the absorbed energy into an electrical signal. This signal is then processed to calculate and display the object's surface temperature, enabling non-contact temperature measurement.
lol that was on a recent episode of Sorted Food (on YT). They were trying to figure out what it was! And then how effective it would be, turns out they both ending up eating their own words.
Have you made any sausage rolls yet?

No way I was looking to get one of them to see where cold bits are in my flat

Yup, I got one of those tiny theremal cams that attach to your phone, tells you the temperature and where the hot/cold spots are. That would help, but what you really need is a thermal camera
Absolutely this. You can get them pretty cheap if you're not trying to get point values unlike the pros (you presumably just want to see temperature difference rather than measured values). The pointer thermometer posted above will be a really inefficient way of doing this. That would help, but what you really need is a thermal camera
