The Radeon RX9070XT / RX9070 Owners Thread

Well after being a team green fanboy for over 20 years I thought to myself I'll try an AMD card this time, bought a 9070XT well after using it for the last 6 months I'm afraid to say I'll be going back to NVIDIA, I'm not one for overclocking or having the fastest rig what I want is trouble free gaming, I spend all day fixing servers the last one I want to do is do it when I'm at home. Unfortunately this AMD journey has been nothing short out tedious hassle. The thing just isn't stable, tried this tried that, this driver that driver, undervolted over volted, spun round 3 times and prayed to Zeus. Slapped in my old 3070 no hassles what so ever runs like a dream, Well at least I can say I tried but nah its cost me 650 quid but well worth it to know not to bother again with AMD.

As someone with an IT tech background you should have realised a long time ago it was clearly a faulty GPU. But instead you persevered with an obviously faulty bit of hardware and are now blaming the entire brand. The thing is still under warranty, RMA it and get a replacement and stop blaming an entire brand for one faulty GPU.

As an IT guy for over 30 years, if I were to swear off every PC hardware brand I had a bit of faulty kit from, I would be looking at an empty PC case.

Surely as an experienced IT technician you should know that sometimes you get unlucky with faulty hardware? What happens if you get a faulty Nvidia GPU? Swear off them as well and go Intel?

Did you do a fresh OS install?

:(

I have the Taichi and must admit it was one of my concerns when purchasing.

It’s clearly faulty

Dear boy why did you not RMA it within a couple of days. The diagnostic tests would have shown that up very quickly. May I suggest in future you visit these esteemed forums where tech sages will give you technical advice to help you.

As an IT professional myself, if this were an actual quality check on someone in my technical team, I would be using this as a “teaching” scenario.

a) Why as a person with over 20 years experience of GPUs and an IT technician no less, did you completely fail to diagnose and resolve an obvious hardware fault after 6 months?

b) Why are you concluding it is working as intended and indicative of the entire brand? Wouldn’t the more rational step as a IT professional be to get the GPU replaced under warranty to get a bigger sample size?

Just wondering out loud, but do people who move from Nvidia to AMD normally uninstall Afterburner (if keeping the same Windows install) when moving manufacturers? I have heard that it can interfere with Adrenalin as both attempt to do the same thing (and Afterburner has more system wide settings than available in Adrenalin, which may not get reset).

Little consolation if someone has had difficulty, hardly a plus point in that situation.

Agreed and why it is important to look beyond any bias when diagnosing a fault. I “swore” off Nvidia when they released a set of drivers that overheated and killed one of my SLI 260 GTX GPUs. I can’t remember how many Nvidia GPUs I have had since then. What I do know is I have an AMD bias but have had more Nvidia GPUs because I try to buy the best bang for buck to run 4K.

Absolutely not. If moving from Nvidia to AMD remove ALL 3rd party overclock and tuning apps. They look for your old Nvidia GPU and cause system issues when it is inevitably not found.

Adrenalin AMD software is also much better to use than and give more flexibility.
