If you had to buy

I've always fancied converting a leather Volvo v70 drivers seat into a desk chair... Not the sporty style ones the classic Volvo leather seat.

They are hands down the most comfortable car seats I've ever had by a country mile.
Bit extreme though

Will be keeping an eye on this thread, my chair's back suddenly decided it couldn't fight mavity anymore and is currently back in place with the aid of two screws.

On a really weird side note it seems the people who own and sell on the high end chairs like Steel cases amd Embody all tend to live in London which tracks - high paid jobs and so have the funds to get the higher end stuff.

I got this exact one too, I weigh 70kg and mine is now rotten after a couple years, it's held together with leather patches.
Hugely let down by the product and would not recommend anyone to get one.
Had mine 7 years now, gets daily use and it's really starting to deteriorate. The seat cushion has 2 large segments of the "leather" broken away exposing the foam and springs. I can't really complain as it is 7 years use, but it started breaking apart maybe 2 years ago.

Lots of recommendations for the Sihoo though so I'm tempted to give that a go.

My trusty dx racer has turned to dust, my steel case one I got work to pay for from a second hand furniture store is stunning real leather, I got it around covid so lots of stuff going cheap then.

Ok long story short I have used all these chairs and ranking them in my order of preference.

1.Herman miller embody with atlas headrest.
2 steelcase leap V2 leather with headrest
3.steelcase gesture with and without headrest
4.kaiser 3 gaming chair
5 secretlabs evo titan

Now 1 and 2 are so close that either is fine but the atlas headrest makes it perfect for sitting leaned back playing console games. The standard one with the leap is so so. Average at best. Tempted to replace with an atlas headrest to see the difference.

Gesture is also nice but not as comfortable as the first 2 but also if I didn't have the first 2 I wouldn't notice and be happy with it.

I also rate the kaiser 3 as for the price £160ish new nothing can come close. Wouldn't pay full price for one though.

Evo titan is also fine but firmer then the kaiser 3.

One big thing to note is that the Herman miller and steelcase take less space up and look more sleek and fit in more then the gaming chairs. The gaming chairs are larger and take up more space if that makes any difference to you.

If you are after any used office chairs check the forums and Facebook and the bay for the best deals.

All I will say is that all the chairs combined cost me less then 1 new embody at RRP.

Settled on a leap V2 refurb fully refurbished and cleaned with 12 month warranty for £285.

Now I have an Herman Miller Mirra to shift.

a gaming chair which would you go out and buy?

i need a new chair, currently have a gaming chair which has seen better days and am looking for something new not too fussy about ergonomics.
The main issue for me is actually been able to try before i buy.

so whats out there that is decent lets put a max price of £300
I wouldn't buy a gaming chair.

I'd go for a refurbed office chair from one of the many online places. They're just better in every way possible - more comfortable, more features, better made (last a lifetime, not a few years).

I've got four office chairs at home and one gaming chair. The gaming chair is in tatters, the others are like new (and a few years older). The only reason the gaming chair remains is for my son's mates to sit on when they're round.

Secretlabs titan xl 2022 is what I bought 2 years ago and it's been the best chair I ever had, I was sick of the cheap office chair breaking I decided to buy a good one, it's still like new as I but a small blanket over it but I've now decided to get the skin for it it's helping with my back problem.

I have been offered a Steelcase Amia refurb for £300 - any users? Should I take it?

I've used a Steelcase Amia (refurbished) for circa 1+ years, and have found it to be an excellent -- and very underrated -- chair.

As to whether the one you have been offered is a good buy, a lot will depend on the quality of the refurb and the condition of the chair.

In particular, the Steelcase Amia offers one of the most comfortable seat pads in the Steelcase range. It is less adjustable than the Steelcase Leap V1/V2 (another popular Steelcase refurb option), but I see that as no bad thing.

Overall, I have found that the Steelcase Amia is a very effective "serious productivity work" (i.e., "sitting up quite straight at the computer") type chair. It is not a "lounging" chair.

If helpful, I posted a brief summary of my experience of buying the chair (including a post-purchase fix) here.

Hope that helps a little.
