Trading the stockmarket (NO Referrals)

Right now my 401k.is on track for about 12% this year (average return would be about 7%), so I've been pushing a lot of my earnings there lately. Only started this in 2019 though so that's a little sucky. Market is quite volatile though.

Trading, I should have started a long time ago. I expect to not be successful, hence just tinkering.

401k..that's, like a USA pension thing? is it like a SIPP in the UK/EU?

It is roughly like a workplace pension in the UK.
Yeah, kinda. Not as good as a pension however. I watch the darn thing like a hawk (even though it makes no difference) , and keep pumping money into it every two weeks.

It definitely won't be enough for retirement in 20 years though, unless I have most things paid off etc and minimal outgoings. Hence .. me looking at this investment stuff now.

I'm curious as to how it works..

Is it like national insurance in the UK so you have to pay in, to get basic state pension,or is it volentary/self invested so you have a choice where the money is invested?
Do you have state pensions in the USA?

‘Worth more the older it gets' well I guess you've found an amazing investing trick that all the banks don't want everyone to find out! It's a gross oversimplification of the asset, basically. You have no idea what someone will be willing to pay for that cask in the future (although I'm willing to bet that the company trying to punt them to you will take it back off your hands for a 'reasonble' price, after you've paid for storage in the intervening years.

Buy a decent, boring dividend stock and it'll be 'worth more the older it gets'....
35% return over 2yrs so far but your right. It’s nothing till sold

Returning to this as his comments stuck in my mind. But I see dlockers got banned.

Anyway back to talking about 10% gains in a day then crying as the market ‘dumped’ it 3%

Did ok on mongdb. Now looking at crypto top ups and think BP is a good buy with a decent dividend yield still. Should be an easy 10% growth once oil price pick up

I have Social Security, which I literally just signed up for an account a couple days ago and saw what I am supposed to be getting at retirement time roughly per month. (I guess kinda like National Insurance, you HAVE to pay into it).

Then I have a 401K which is a workplace only plan you pay into. It mostly goes against the stockmarket, bonds investments etc, and normally managed by big investment firms. That is only really available at retirement time. You pay without tax and then get taxed on withdrawal. Currently have 8% salary + 6% match from company.

Then there are Roth IRA (retirement plan).which you pay tax up front and no tax on withdrawal. I only have 1% going into that right now.

MVST looking good. I only have 8 shares so far, since I'm still learning.

Lots of whisky cask scams have been exposed. You might want to be careful.
Yeh this is legit. Had an event last month I went to. Other clients had no issue getting their money out. Money was in escrow with follow up confirmation and certificates etc
