It would also need to exist on the database of existing people.

E.g. you wouldn’t be able to fake it, you’d have to steal someone else’s. Needless to say doing so might win you a stay at His Majesty’s pleasure…

I would think they would have a system in place to detect such Identity theft.

(Identity theft is often a pre-cursor to fraud but is not considered a recordable crime)

Well, this was quite a read.

I'm not bothered myself as I already firmly believe most of everyone's fears have already been realised. Not that we are actively tracked, but that we could be with a quick chat with the courts.

I Just wonder how much of a cluster **** it will be :D

It will catch all the 16 and 17 year olds who will be eligible to vote next time around.

(But who probably wont).

It could be a great idea to have a central ID, even if it was just for convenience, I like many have all sort's of stuff in my wallet, a passport, driving licence, tacho and cpc cards, nhs card, bank cards, and all sorts of other things that could possibly be consolidated into one form of identification.

If it was honestly just for identification purposes it would be great, the problem is, like many things in our world, if it can be abused, it probably will be abused, some way or another.

One of the reasons behind the push for a digital ID seem like a total waste of time, it will not ever stop illegal working in the UK. You only have to go to some of your local pubs, clubs and fast food restaurants to see illegal workers first hand.
