The Perfect Neighbour (Netflix)

This was good but it was quite brutal viewing at times. It almost felt wrong showing some of the personal moments between the family in the immediate aftermath, but the family must have agreed to it being included.

This very underwhelming and overhyped.

I thought it was going to go somewhere at one point, or have a shocking twist. I didn't, nothing really happened. The trailer overhypes it big time.

The women was a bitter loner, who hated kids and other peoples joy, there's nothing unique about the story told, and it was evident from the start what would eventually happen - my only mistake was thinking outside the box that there was going to be a twist/lie going on.
I've no idea why this would be notimated for any awards?

I actually thought it was going to have a twist, that the families were all in on it and it was going to turn out that they were actually lying and were terrorising that bitter old woman, and maybe ended up shooting or stabbing her. But nope!

Yeah, ultimately the story/crime is what it is but the documentary felt very overhyped and didn’t live up to expectations.

They did do a great job of piecing a story together out of years worth of bodycam footage, though.

Regarding the crime, the thing I do take issue with:

Not defending what happened, the events were horrible..

The ‘Karen’ was clearly a looney so why did they continue to antagonise.. I get kids will be kids but they should've been told to steer clear and the other parents shouldn’t have been kicking off like they did.

This whole making out like they were polite in approaching the woman etc is clearly nonsense, it was a rowdy neighbourhood and the parents were blatantly the types that would shout their mouth.

What were you expecting ? It’s based on a pretty famous case.

Expecting a twist when there were was clearly never one coming is on you lol.

Reminds me of people who watched adolescence from start to finish expecting a twist and then called it boring…

Based on the trailer, clearly a lot more

I thought it was going to be what I said in the spoiler, and the trailer was setting up a premise that the bitter old cow was actually the victim.

Famous, lol why, cause they went a bit BLM about it saying if it was them they'd be locked up, but because she's white she's free - I agree there shouldn't be 1 rule for 1 like that, but yeah, it didn't need to go that way in the doc. They were investigating the whole time and not putting anything off, and got the right verdict, which resulted in the right conviction, with no racial bias.

Because of the debate around stand your ground laws that it brought up in the US. It was all over US media and internet at the time.

FYI I agree the reviews overhyped it though.

I did wonder if that was what you were going to mention.
So in light of that, what actually happened didn't really account for much, this documentary just used it as a way to highlight a debate regarding that law and how it could be abused.
My heart did sink as soon as I realised that's the way the documentary was going once it was brought up :(

I'd hardly say it's worthy of any awards, it's just body cam and cctv footage of what happened, put in dated order lol. Hardly groundbreaking cinema or documentary making is it let's be honest :D

I'm not here to convince you to like it, the reviews defo overhyped but i still think it's well above the average Netflix documentary. That said i went in already knowing everything about the case so had no hopes of a 'Making a Murderer' style twist.

Also, It being only body cam and CCTV footage was one of the positives imo, the second half after the arrest felt a bit aimless.

Oh I know mate, there was no mallice towards you :) I was just ranting at the false promise that the trailer flaunts, all said awards/nominations.

Yeah, I only watched it for the bodycam style TBH, as I loved End Of Watch :P

Yeah as soon as she was asked if she knew what Stand Your Ground meant, the whole thing died on it's arse. IIRC around 38 minutes in, and I knew even if I saw it through, it was going to be a waste of time lol. At least I didn't quit though, haha!

I just had a thought @imtoooldforthis I'd say a decent Netflix documentary I've seen, is the Dirty John doc, the series was great, and the doc was perfect to watch straight after season 1.

The Last Dance, is awesome, and probably the GOAT, Netflix wise.

The Seven Five, is amazing, but Netflix didn't make that, Michael Dowd did that off his own back years before it appeared on Netflix.
