These CPUs are going spare and i've the choice of one of them. Initially I said the 14....but after <60 seconds googling it seems the 13 might be the better option for gaming?

Either CPU will be in an MSI Z790 Gaming Plus Wifi with 2 x 32GB CL6400 RAM and a 4070ti

TY

If it is the K model of each I'd go for the 14700K.

Not much faster for gaming but in my experience it is never slower than the 13700K for gaming, usually about as fast as the 13900K as makes any odds, and the extra E cores can be useful.

In that case pretty much no difference at stock between them for gaming, the 13700K may slightly edge it in some cases but not by any meaningful amount, I'd rather have the K SKU personally though the extra E cores even then can be useful.

14700 has 4 more ecores, 3MB more smart cache and 4MB total L2 though I think some parts of the non K SKU's have limits like undervolting/ RAM settings etc locked down compared to K SKU's.

If any one are retail you'll may get better warranty coverage for peace of mind.

What does this mean?

Just ignore him. He's a bit of an AMD cheerleader - I'm surprised he didn't reply sell the Intel CPU and buy AMD, though that may be still to come. :)
Though it's of no surprise he didn't really answer your question.

At the end of the day there's little to be concerned with as Intel/Motherboard sellers have stopped trying to overclock the CPU's out of the box (which was the cause of the failures) and all bios now run the CPU's at the correct voltages. (Plus it was mainly the 14900k/13900k mainly affected)

Not much between them but I'd go with the 14700 if you're just going to plug and play.

Thank you.

My main system is a 7800x3d, 64gb, 5090. These were free and I've the desk space to have a 2nd machine. So it was silly to pass up the oppertunity.
