I'm looking to upgrade a 27" to a 32"ish

Due to hardware limitations i run games at 1440p.

But here is the kicker... How come this LG 4k monitor is cheaper than the 1440p?

I Mean I could just get the 4k model but I'm concerned about running it at 1440p, as maybe it won't cope with the downscaling very well compared to OLED monitors but they are too expensive.

So basically I'm after a 32"1440p
IPS (not VA)
freesync
decent HDR
120hz or better
Not curved or ultra wide just normal aspect ratio

Seems crazy the 4k models are cheaper?

PC it Will be hooked up to is a 5700x3d with an rx6800xt

Your 9070XT is perfectly capable of running games at 4k. You may not manage the highest quality settings in the newest games, though.

The 1440P is 180Hz and Nano-IPS, the 4K is IPS, and only 60Hz ;)

ahh I didn't spot that!

...anyway the real question is, with a 4k IPS screen, is, how much will I be sacrificing by forcing it to run at 1440p?

No doubt someone will be along in a sec to bang on about PPI

No worries mate, you probably had some thermal paste in your field of vision ;)

Do you play SP mainly? If so, I'm sure you could get away with 4K60 with pretty high settings on a RX 6800XT, at worst use FSR on quality and frame gen and max out the settings?

If you play MP and SP games, you really have to weigh up if it's worth the trade off and cost to have a 120/144/165Hz 4K monitor to be able to play both high FPS MP at competitive settings and a locked 60FPS with eye candy in SP.
If it was me, and say it was only a single play MP game like CS, Valorant etc, but I mainly played SP, I'd just stop playing CS, and get the 60Hz 4K, and enjoy loads of eye candy SP games, versus arguing with foreign hacking teenagers in MP lobbies, whilst learning swearing in different languages ;) :D

Some games I need higher refresh rates to properly enjoy, but a lot of single player RPG's or slower paced stuff that I play at 4K (albeit on a 65" tv while sat on the couch rather than nearfield) I'm fine with 60fps.

With all due respect, I just want a bigger 1440p screen, and it needs to be 120hz minimum, I dont care if its higher Hz than that.

Dell do an interesting looking 120hz one for £300

Dell 32 Plus 4K Monitor - S3225QS

BUt its 4k - so im concerned it might be a bit crap when forced to 1440p

edit - scratch that, it's a VA pannel...

meh...so annoying
