Winter 2025/2026 - Cold or Mild?

Seems pretty mild still considering. I wouldn't say we've had a single cold snap morning yet and I'm still able to work out in the shed with a quick blast of the electric heater. South West London. Good for the wallet.

So much for today being an esentially dry day here in Hampshire, going back to forecasts last week, not heavy rain like Sunday and Monday but it's seen damp all afternoon.

Supposedly dry during the day for rest of week now besides early on Thursday, but early hours of Sunday forecast to "feel like" 2C... Might need to put storage heaters on for first time this autumn!

Edit: Losing tracks of days in the grey, today is Tuesday!

Yeah... I'm seeing temps are slowly ticking downwards as the week goes on.

I was hoping to avoid using the heating until November at least, but looks like the mild spell may be coming to an end :(

Forecast tomorrow wind gusts over 50mph here

I think they are under-forecasting it though it looks like it will be quite patchy with some places getting hit much harder than others despite not being that far apart - which is maybe causing the models to average it out if they don't have enough resolution.

Weather looks bad Thursday

Got caught out by the windchill factor overnight, was something like "feels like" 4C, if I'd realised I would probably have turned the storage heaters on for the first time this autumn.

Not too bad considering in the lounge, just under 18C on the digital thermometer, been almost 20C minimum all summer.

Wind only gusting to ~26mph now, rain as good as stopped until 1400ish, so drier spell than originally forecast.

Booo the storm been downgraded here and not lasting aslong today :(

Looks like the low while developing a bit more intensely than originally forecast is developing a bit later and so further south east at its most intense than originally modelled while the second low is losing intensity faster as it approaches.

Looks like there is a few lows coming off the Atlantic the next few days into November but so far nothing like the fired up conveyor of previous years which has ruined any chances of cold.

The forecasters have said this winter is most likely to bring average or milder conditions in its three-month outlook for October to December.

“However, with an increased chance of northwesterly or northerly outbreaks there is a greater chance of spells of colder weather, with winter hazards more likely than usual, later in the period.”

so long as its dry on saturday/sunday as I am off to London :)

heatings been on a few hrs every day this month cos this flat is stupidly cold even when it's not outside.
