Winter 2025/2026 - Cold or Mild?

We had the heating on for a couple of hours last night as it started really turning cold from 16.00. Right now it's 11.22am and only 5.6℃, overcast with no wind. Barometric pressure is 990.18hpa. Much colder than last year and snow is forecast on thee mountains for the weekend.

This time last year it was 13℃ and reached a high of 14℃ at 15.09 before dropping to 11.9℃ overnight. Wind was from SSW at a average of 10kmh with a strongest gust of 30.9kmh. We had a high pressure of 1019.9 hpa and the month was mainly warm, breezy and wet.
 
Giving some of the storage heaters their first maximum input and output blast of the season tonight, very wintery feeling all day, like someone has flicked the winter switch.
 
I'm feeling the cold this morning........

Had one storage heater on low since late September. Much earlier than last year!
 
if this morning is anything to go by its going to be very cold winter , Its freezing even in the office this morning i am having to wear a hoodie

Same, have had the one in the bathroom on for over a week now, nothing worse than coming out of the shower into a cold room.
Have also been alternating days on the kids storage heater, even on the minimum it heats the room up to over 22, but after a couple of days it's dropping to sub 17 when turned off.
 
Today was forecast to be dry in Hampshire, but we've had showers for the last hour or so that are expected to end in another hour...

Very cold here today, only 4.3℃ with a moderate NW wind making it feel like 3℃. It blew last night though, hell of a wind and heavy rain all night. This time last year it was 12.4℃ here with no rain for the day and a highest wind gust of 15km/h. I think this will be a bad winter for us up here because it's shaping up like winter 2010/2011 which was very bad here as in February we had three weeks below zero with a low of -28℃ at night and a high of -18℃ during the day with snow on most days leaving us with around 4 feet of the stuff. It was so bad we were running out of places to put it in our cul-de-sac after burying our gardens under 8-9 feet of the stuff. I have never been so cold outside of a Falklands winter!!

Cairngorm mountain summit right now is -4℃ with a NW wind gusting to 40-45mph with a windchill of -14℃ and snow above 880m!!
