Octopus Power Ups and Free Energy Sessions

i plugged in my car 15 mins after the free period started on both days.
does this mean i will get nothing? or will it be pro rata'd?

I was hoping because electricity is billed in 30min blocks it would backtrack the half hour anyway but maybe not. The "free" sessions will have ended up costing me money if i dont get free charging credit for those periods as it blapped all my export and on the sunday i forgot to unplug at the end of the hr and it flattened my house battery :/

I was late for one session one time and got the whole session (was over 30 mins late on a 2 hour one)
I suspect they just calculate the whole time for people that are active

Its certainly an interesting time to have a free session. Makes sense as demand starts to drop off around then.

I suppose charge the batts makes sense, will do a run down a bit earlier than that if there is spare.
Mean sat early am charging will be very limited. I wont take the **** and export much later on.

Weather could be ok tomorrow so might be able to export a chunk at dinner time and then get it all back later on.

I'll plan to export quite a bit before before 16:30, then the rest 18:30 to 21:00, charge 21:00 to 22:00, I won't discharge between 22:00 to 23:30 either.

I'm out tomorrow night otherwise I would plug the car in for the free session, but not sure if we'll be back by then, but it will be plugged in when we get back.

On the IOG tariff, does the car have to be plugged in? I’m away from home so have set to charge the house batteries 2100 to 2200 but obviously can’t plug the car in.

It has to be plugged in if you want the free charging credit but you still get the free hour either way

Free session tomorrow night 21:00 to 22:00 tomorrow night.

We also got a power up between 12:00-14:00 tomorrow on top of that.

Not sure how sunny it will be tomorrow but it's going to help out quite a bit tomorrow.

As the weather gets worse and colder these power ups really start pay off.

Nice. Gonna get my mad dash plugging in every lithium ion battery powered item. Would do the electric heater as well but think the misses will scorn me for digging it out from back of a dusty cupboard.

Yea lol.

We've only got 1 but it's coming out, don't feel guilty.

If anything heating your house up during that time means you are using less energy otherwise so it's a win win all around you are doing less environmental damage.

Spend £15 on a (decent quality) smart plug, get 40p in free electric that would only cost about 10p if burning gas.

I’m with you on the intention but even I couldn’t make that man maths work.

So for those with solar/battery on Octopus Go, are these extra hours actually worth doing and topping up the battery for example during that hour? Although the normal tariff price is 27.88pkWh for that time.
