Fuji X Series

18mm is similar to the 33mm, but a bit sharper and has a nice minimum focus distance similar to the 16mm.

18mm f1.4 is great, focus is faster and not that much difference in focal length. I ditched the 16 and kept the 18.

Yeah going to pick one up to go with my 33mm. Already cleared out a load of lenses I wasn't using so 16mm will be the next to go.

18 + 33 seems like the perfect setup, both new generation lenses.

I also still have the 23mm F2 which I think I'll keep. I've had it since I moved to the Fujifilm ecosystem and it's just an incredible lens really, much sharper than the X-E5 pancake lens, but still very light and portable vs the 18 and 33.

I got a Tilda grip/cage thing. Always wanted a wooden grip and this seems like the best one. Some hit and miss accessories though. I didn't get the pack with the top plate as I want to use the hotshoe for the X100VI.

Beautiful packaging, not using the leather strap buttons it comes with as it has a metal screw/button on it. Also not using their Thumb grip either as the Smallrig one offer better clearance to the dial and tighter fit.

I also finally got a YC Onion Square hood, after researching lots, this one is metal, with cover AND it lines up without any additional tool/screw into the side.

Acra Swiss plate at the bottom, access to the battery but the access to the wront dial is slightly recessed, so will see how I get on with it or I will go back to the Smallrig leather case.

I've been so tempted by one of these grips for my XT5, but the last thing I want to do is add more weight... What's this coming in at?

Errrr

The entire thing, with battery, with thumb grip, UV filter and the wood grip, lens hood, SD card, 2 PD buttons and screen protector.

635g.

650g with the lens hood cover on.

Someone on here recommended a SmallRig camera bag which fits the X-E5 and pancake lens like a dream. Does anyone know of a similar cheap bag I can get off amazon that would fit the X-E5 and something larger like the 18mm f1.4? There are loads of options but hard to tell what would fit nicely so figured it might be worth asking here.

My go to was the Manfrotto Stile V Amica 40. Hard to find now in a colour other than white.

Ordered, thanks!

Decided to WFH today so I can take my new 18mm 1.4 out for a test spin. I'm really hoping I prefer this to the 16mm, I was never sure whether it was a soft lens or my photos just weren't quite in focus half the time.

I'm honestly in shock at how sharp the 18mm lens is. I was beginning to think maybe Fujifilm pictures just always come out a bit soft but this has restored my faith.

It is definitely sharper than the 33mm and the 23mm f2.0 (which I've always admired despite being a cheaper lens) but it categorically blows the 16mm f1.4, 56mm f1.2 and everything else out the water.

I'm thrilled with this for my photography as a hobby but honestly just feel a sense of relief I can finally take my camera with an all rounder lens (wide) to family events and get photos which are all pin sharp and don't look like they might be out of focus half the time, which is exactly what happened with the 16mm.

I'm glad you're enjoying it. It's not a lens that appeals to me personally but it certainly reviews well and I have yet to hear a bad word about it.
I recall the old 23mm f1.4 being awful at focussing. 3/4 of the shots I took were back focussed regardless of whether it was in MF or AF - and that was/is a widespread issue with that lens - I wonder were there copies of the 16mm like that as well?

My 16mm was fantastic at landscapes, urban photography but really seemed to struggle with portraits. 18mm isn’t my favourite focal length either but I need a wide lens I can use for family gatherings and portraits and the 16mm just wasn’t up to the task. I think it’s the same generation as the 23mm f1.4 you mention so probably has the same issue.

If I just wanted a wide angle for landscapes I would have been happy with the 16, optically it was still very good.

Why have Fujifilm launched an X-T30 III when they have the X-T50 which came after the X-T30 II... this is pretty confusing.
Perhaps they had a load of spare 26mp sensors lying around :p
I think they are just trying to keep themselves relevant in the "budget" category (X-M5 notwithstanding). I'll admit to not having paid full attention but it seems it is pretty much an X-T50 with the 26mp sensor instead of the 40mp. They've updated the processor and added the Film Sim dial amongst other things to differentiate over the mk ii.

They are not really doing anything to make me move on from my XS-10....it's the same sensor like 5 years on. I almost moved to the XT5 but just can't justify the cost.

I'm still in that quandary myself. I had intended to sell on my X-T3 and a couple of decent lenses so I could upgrade to the 5, but with the rise in costs, I can't justify any of it. A brand spanking X-T5 is £1600 or so now. When I was first looking I could get one for under £1300.

I got mine recently for under £1100 from Very using their new customer finance offer then paying it off.

I get the reason for keeping the X-Trans 4 alive. I sometimes prefer the photos from my X-S10 compared to the X-T5 as the X-Trans 4 renders noticeably differently. Not sure I’d ever be interested in the X-T30III but I see the appeal for some. If I was in the market for similar I’d go with an X-S20 due to the grip and the absence of the useless film sim dial.

I got as far as the check out page, I very nearly bought it but then I spent the money on another flight+hotel to Hong Kong for 8 days instead lol

You guys with the experience, would the X-T5 be the perfect upgrade for me? I do sport and landscape primarily, but not against some portrait too. My X-T3 is adequate at all, but the better AF on the 5 is tempting. That's a bit of a drawback with the 3. It's slow and not very intuitive especially with swimming. Plus the batteries are dire.
