Getting rid of perfume smell in room

My sister in law came over earlier today with the kids and it seems that unknowingly my niece was spraying a bunch of perfumes we had in our bathroom cabinet... in one of the bedrooms :( Suddenly walked into the room and it smelt like I just walked into Boots. It's that overwhelming I started getting a headache.

It's been a good 5 or 6 hours since that and the room still smells quite strongly of perfume. Had the windows wide open for about half an hour, which inevitably turned the room into an arctic freezer. Even had a fan on just to waft out the smell.

The Mrs sprayed some Febreeze fabric freshener thing on the carpet, as we could actually smell the perfume was lingering on the carpet. I can't tell if the Febreeze is working or if we've made it worse by using that...

Any ideas on how to get rid of this smell? Or is it just a case of waiting it out until tomorrow? Thankfully I'm not sleeping in this room tonight.

I can't see how spraying more crap into the room is going to help the room smell less like crap.

Cover the effected areas of the carpet in bicarb soda overnight, vacuum up in the morning, if there's still a nasty scent try scrubbing with white vinegar.

Thanks guys. Yeah, spraying more crap would make it worse... I'll just leave it and hopefully it's gone by tomorrow.

I wasn't aware I had such weapons in my bathroom cabinet. The niece was quite cheeky with that! Almost killed me with smell!

In the past when the Kids have done this i have just opened the window , yes you have to listen to there teeth chatter abit but they dont do it again

Putting the heating on full blast, let the heat vapourise the perfume, then open the window until cold. Close window and repeat.

Just don't light a match lol.

If you know where then you could use spot vax but then you have the smell of linen too.

Thanks. From what I gathered, there wasn't a particular area where the perfume was sprayed, just pretty much around the room. It wasn't poured out or anything like that, but just sprayed a lot of it.

It's definitely improved since yesterday, but I can still definitely smell it coming from the carpet.

I'm just thinking given that it was only sprayed, not poured out the bottles, whether the smell would dissipate on its own in another day or two, or will a cleaning solution be the only thing that would properly remove the carpet smell?

I don't want to start soaking the carpet with stuff if it's just a case of being patient and letting air circulate in the room.

Get it steam cleaned professionally. Or you could try use hot water, tiny bit of soap/vinegar, and wash it with a cloth. And then use just hot water to do a final rinse.

Wetting with febreeze will likely make the problem worse. Wetting will increase the smell as the water evaporates it'll take the scent with it, but also could over wet and end up with the smells going to the underlay /back side of the carpet and then you will not be able to do anything to remove the smell other than patiently wait

I remember I dated a girl who used to spray a ton of Prada I think it was on herself in my spare room, it took months and months for the smell to go after I stopped dating her :D

Air fry a piece of skin on salmon.

Our house reeks for days after the Mrs cooks salmon, makes me irrationally angry.
Air freshener? The kitchen reeks whenever we cook salmon too, but usually a bit of air freshener afterwards gets rid of the smell.
