Well, the rumours are that this is Microsoft's way of testing how much demand / appetite there is for the Halo franchise. This project won't cost too much, and is a fairly safe bet given that it's a remake. If this game doesn't sell well across multiple platforms then it's unlikely MS will fund remakes of the remainder of the series ( or a new title ).Tbh, when it popped up on my feed, I thought this was a community project.
It doesn't even make sense from a business prospective. Nostalgia will only carry it so far. Look at elder scrolls oblivion remake- it's dead only a few months from release - a whopping 3k players 24 hours peak.

Xbox have never explicity stated their reasons for pursuing a remake ( vs a new game ). And a lot of people on other platforms ie. Playstation, Switch were looking for Halo MCC to be ported over.I thought that was already known considering the player base still remaining on later releases being fairly low. Halo was great but just hasn't kept up momentum. It was just annoying with the various versions and the playerbase on MCC being being split up across different games.
The best way forward for me would be a new single player experience with online/local coop for the campaign.
