Halo : Campaign Evolved (2026)

Having only recently played through the Remastered version, it looks more like what I would have wanted from the remaster in terms of visuals/art design, they really missed the mark with a lot of areas being too overdesigned and well lit, spoiling the atmosphere, seems a lot more faithful here.

Hopefully they've given some of the later levels a big rethink, the swamp and library levels were terrible.

Can already see this must be a UE5 game, it's got all the hallmarks

Here is my quick analysis:

Smells like unreal engine 5 to me

I haven't played that many of Halo games (1 & 2), but I have some fond memories of these titles, so I'm certainly onboard for this.

I seem to recall that the enemies had quite impressive A.I., though whether that's partly due to rosy retrospection, I don't know.

Great music and an overall slick, cohesive design made this a great series of game(s).

Must pick up the Master Chief collection when it comes down in price.

It's the third remake...

What they should have done is retell the first three in a new light: new levels or a fresh take on the first arc.

Halo needs a different direction...

Tbh, when it popped up on my feed, I thought this was a community project.

It doesn't even make sense from a business prospective. Nostalgia will only carry it so far. Look at elder scrolls oblivion remake- it's dead only a few months from release - a whopping 3k players 24 hours peak.

Well, the rumours are that this is Microsoft's way of testing how much demand / appetite there is for the Halo franchise. This project won't cost too much, and is a fairly safe bet given that it's a remake. If this game doesn't sell well across multiple platforms then it's unlikely MS will fund remakes of the remainder of the series ( or a new title ).

I thought that was already known considering the player base still remaining on later releases being fairly low. Halo was great but just hasn't kept up momentum. It was just annoying with the various versions and the playerbase on MCC being being split up across different games.

The best way forward for me would be a new single player experience with online/local coop for the campaign.

Xbox have never explicity stated their reasons for pursuing a remake ( vs a new game ). And a lot of people on other platforms ie. Playstation, Switch were looking for Halo MCC to be ported over.
