What "man jobs" have you done today?

Back part of the fence the other day and been painting one of the kids bedroom today.

Back to the fence next weekend!

This imgur blocking is such a pain in the arse

Anyway, made a hole in the fence and installed an unused gate! :)

Took panels off to inspect

Placing gate into place to size up

Bolted a 2x8 to the concrete godfather to give a good solid piece to hinge the gate to, then put the old fence panels back over it to blend it in!

And voila! Camogate!

Updated Mum & Dad's wills, put the house & other assets into the family trust (middle finger to Rachel Reeves), then sorted POA for them. Also wrapped my sister's inheritance in a trust as she's vulnerable.

They'd been meaning to get around to it, as they thought it was "a little while" since their last wills were written - looked at the documents and one was Dad's old Royal Navy "leave everything to the Wife" pro-forma, signed by the ship's purser & XO (1990, Diego Garcia) and the other was 1997, when Dad retired out and thought his nearly new Vauxhall Frontera counted as "an asset"

Dad's literally just retired (from civvy street) and I made sure to acknowledge that having an estate worth protecting, is something he's every right to feel proud about.

Been in garage sorting out all the unused power tools - Drills -Jig saws - sanders -angle grinders - etc -Box of scrap copper-- Nowt wrong with them - Just not been used for years.

Not all my work, but pleased to have it done. Following an ongoing leak we replaced the whole system. A rimless loo too which should be easier to keep clean. Workmen are as infuriating as I remember, hope to not need any work doing for a while.

Well done that looks really smart. I presume you can still get in if parts need changing with the float etc?

I spent a long time yesterday evening just changing a toilet seat. It sounds like a simple two bolts off, two bolts on and fit it together however despite having reasonably small wrists and long arms for a man I could barely get my hands around, through the gap and stretch to get fingers or the pliers to hold the lower bolt on. I wonder that job was really for the skinny teenaged apprentices to do! Anyway having got the bolts through and put it all together I had made a stupid mistake as the seat is totally the wrong shape and does not sit correctly so i am going to have to redo it all very soon. In my defence my wife picked it out and it was going to match the rest of the room well but I should have spotted it was wrong before starting, initially she said she was happy with it not fitting but that only lasted for 10 minutes! Hopefully we can find a seat that screws on from above only so I only have to do the contortionist movements when taking the other seat off.

It’s decent considering we tried to avoid having to do the whole room. Yes, that’s the idea, access via the top tile that is stuck on with silicone. I was hoping they’d make a bigger access panel, but they seem to be able to work with what is there. At least we also have spare tiles this time if the worst were to happen. The previous owners didn’t leave any spare, nor was there access built in.

Sweated my bits off for a couple of hours adding some more insulation in the loft as a top up. Not that much to do but at my age and flexibility it's a major job! Hope I notice a difference but I doubt it, was just a small patch above the bathroom.

Next job is to sort out the extractor fan and ducting up there. At the moment it goes from the ceiling to the fan on the wall with insulated ducting. Then it goes from the fan to the the top of the roof, mostly by insulated ducting again but it joins onto a pipe that exhausts through a roof vent. I'm sure there must be a better way for it to go cos it also sits in the middle of my boarded walkway which is a bit of a pain to navigate.

Electric Velux blinds stopped closing fully and it seems the batteries were the cause. Almost fell off my chair when I saw the price of replacements! (Almost 100 quid a pop)

Opened one up and found it's just 4 x 1.2v NiMhs in series for 4.8v output. The 4 pin plug is a joke, 1 Positive and 1 negative. 2 of the pins are shorted to one another, perhaps as some way for Velux to 'protect' a connector which neednt be more than 2 pin.

Bought come connectors and a charger suitable for 4 to 8 cell NiMhs (actually for RC cars) and charged them up. Reinstalled and seems to have done the trick! All at the cost of about 20 quid + my time.

Currently laying on the floor waiting for a radiator to drain out so I can unmount it and decorate.

Already done 3 of them with the first one having faulty valves causing it to leek water all over the floor and down into the kitchen. And these these weigh a ton! I'm also re-evaluating my life choices.
