Greenlizard0 Premier League Football Thread ** spoilers ** [24th - 26th October 2025]

I doubt anyone expected us to be in such a sorry state and lose 4 in a row. Seems like the wheels have come off our season already.
Whilst it's not the end of the world, you can't expect to be in title contention losing so many games already and teams just know how to get at us.

On a side note, whilst we have a lot of new players come in, how much do you think losing Jota has had on a lot of the other players, as at times their focus just isn't there and grief, tragedy and loss can manifest in so many ways that even as top athletes, they're not immune to such troubles.

YOU REDS!

Always a fun fixture this, and was my 6 year old son's first evening kick off.

That's Liverpool, United and Villa beat at home so far. A draw with Chelsea too. Not too bad for Keith Andrews seeing as many had us as relegation favourites.

Watch us get beat by Grimsby on Tuesday now...

We’re actually in relegation form rather than having any dreams of winning the league. I’d call it a miracle if we were to qualify for champions league. I’m pretty sure losing Jota is a big part of it, lots of players don’t seem to be in the right headspace and they need time to adjust.

Haven't been able to watch either of the last two games but it sounds like it was all the same problems as we've seen throughout the season. Until we fix these structural issues then every game we play in, at best, will be a shootout and when the front line doesn't fire we're going to keep dropping points. I've never been of the view that we must have an out and out defensive midfielder, we walked the league last season without one after all, but if we're going to insist on picking 4 out and out forwards with Salah having no defensive responsibility and two very much attack minded fullbacks then you need one, if not two dogs in midfield. We can't keep going into games where the 3rd most defensively minded player in the 11 is Szoboszlai, an attacking midfielder.

I commented on it throughout the summer but the signings of Frimpong (and Bradley isn't massively different) and Wirtz, given Salah's role in the side just seemed far too adventurous and all those fears have come true. Whenever we concede possession we're just wide open down our right hand side. For all the talk about Trent defensively, at least he'd be in the RB position when sides would attack and Szoboszlai being the 3rd midfielder meant we had cover when Salah wouldn't track back.

I'd say that we are already out of the title race , whatever is wrong at Liverpool is going to take time to solve, this isnt going to be a quick fix and I think that by the time its resolved its going to be too late to be in a title fight. Frankly, the way Haaland is this season I feel he could almost singlehandedly win City the league again.
