So I upgraded to windows 11 and was having a few issues with sleep / hibernating. Read up this was an old bios issue.

I had the 2021 f61 bios.

Downloaded to usb - f65i - the latest one then qflashed via bios.

Now it won't post. Red light on. Have tried CMOS battery out for 10 mins. Have also tried taking a RAM stick out. It won't let me click any boot settings or go to qflash. My board doesn't have a physical bios switch.

What can I do?

Sadly, I've had this with 2 or 3 gigabyte motherboards in the past. Can your bios chip be removed? I know on some older boards they could and then you could buy a working replacement to put in. Good luck :)

Do you have another PC and a soldering iron? If so, you could get yourself a programmer, desolder the BIOS chip, and reflash the BIOS.

Press and hold Power & Reset buttons for 10 seconds.

Thanks - I've tried all varatiation of power and reset buttons. Sadly the writing is on the wall. I don't think I've got the time or capability to be soldering things.

At this time- I'm looking at new motherboards. If I replaced with a newer motherboard and loaded in - what will happen to windows etc? Would it be like nothing happened?

It should work but you may need to reactivate Windows which is very easy.

Can anyone recommend a reasonably priced motherboard (amd) that will tie me over until am6 next year? Ideally with a physical bios switch !

what are the other specs of the computer? eg cpu/gpu etc?
if it's pretty old eg ryzen 2000 series then i would probably say to use this as an opportunity to upgrade (assuming you have the cash sitting spare)

as to which board to recommend, my take on this would be the cheapest one you can get your hands on, seeing as it's going to be sold/upgraded next year anyhow, no need to waste good money on it

Though after you recover what you need, I would do a fresh install of windows as there's bound to be conflicts by changing the motherboard
I'm very lazy and upgraded from am4 to am5 and have had no issues or performance drops. My install is an upgraded version from 8 to 8.1 to 10 then 11.

I've got 3080ti 5800x. Yes, was thinking the b550 range? Any recommendations? I'll buy a new build late 2026.

ah that's a pretty decent rig. the 5800x is hot running and is a 105w tdp chip, you'd want something with a semi-decent VRM setup, as such, you can't go with el-cheapo i'm afraid.

if you're going to get it new, and don't mind sticking with gigabyte, i'd get something like this:
https://www.overclockers.co.uk/giga...2-amd-am4-b550-atx-motherboard-mb-593-gi.html
(12+2, 50A VRM setup)

personally i would get it b-grade
make an offer to robbie when he's back from leave on wednesday if you can wait that long, i would think £70-80 would be the ballpark figure
