Greenlizard0 Premier League Football Thread ** spoilers ** [24th - 26th October 2025]

I love seeing a team that can play this compact 3421/541 formation really well, and this has been an off-the-ball masterclass from Palace so far.

Undone by the usual. Great finish from Eze.

Good first half from us, Haaland had one big chance but kept them reasonably quiet on the whole.

I know a few have said it’s a lazy take, but he did inherit a well drilled team and, to me, only had to tweak a bit last season. Now that’s been broken up a bit and he’s seemingly had time to put his own stamp on things, it’s gone awry a little.

Also, since losing more, my estimations of him have gone down, he seems like a sore loser and a bit arrogant.

They’ll pull it together though, I’m sure.

I get why it could be viewed as a lazy take, but I also think it's fair. As you say, he did inherit a settled and very well drilled team, and made some good tweaks.

It's far more difficult to rebuild a team though, and so far if we ignore last season, he looks well out of his depth. It's also generally well known that just buying loads of top players doesn't always yield results.

As you say, given the quality, I'd be surprised if they don't get things sorted out fairly soon. However, a couple more bad results and I can see the fans asking questions.

Much like with Amorim is that on him though? Managers aren't in charge of transfers any more so surely the blame should be placed on the DoF?

I would assume he dictates what priorities there are when it comes to signings and discusses it with the recruitment team. I doubt he said he wanted 2 CB and a DM and got Ekitike, Wirtz, Isak, Kerkez and Frimpong.

Fundamentally their issue is tactical more than personnel in my view as well.

I've no idea really - you'd have thought a top manager would be able to fit those players into a title winning side.

They lost Trent and Jota last season and have replaced them with unknown quality.

With the exception of Isak who is a known premier league quantity the rest of the buys are a massive risk and unknown.

As someone mentioned earlier Salah carried the team a lot last season. Very similar to RVP in our last league win. Papered over a lot of issues. Lets also not forget they won the league with just 84 points which hadn't happened for 10 years.

Also very similar with our last league win. Rio fell off a cliff due to his age and it seems the same is happening to VVD and Robertson isn't far behind.

It always perplexed me why Liverpool never brought anyone in to understudy VVD as you could tell he had already passed his peak after his injury.

Klopp like Fergie has left an incredibly aging squad with the main spine in the twilight of their careers.

They did buy an understudy, he's injured. VVD hasn't fallen off a cliff, the teams just an unbalanced mess at the moment and Slot doesn't seem to know how to fix it
