The Witcher series (Netflix)

Biggest problem with the season so far is they just can't leave it alone and have to inject some contemporary DEI elements which just land badly and it jumps around a bit too much.

Yep, just had to put this in!

Also some of the acting is a bit off. There's an angry mob who hate you at the gates, ok lets just open the gates and walk through angry mob

Season 4 is just abysmal. It doesn't flow like the others. It's like they are trying to soften the blow that Cavill has gone - the recap at the beginning where they showed Cavill you couldn't see his face, and the other segments featured his back, or a shot he wasn't even in. I could see what they're trying to do, it just hasn't worked. I don't think I can continue, it's so disappointing.

Netflix going extra woke yet again..

Ciri's having a bit of lesbian action with the African blond woman ( I saw that coming ) , while they've made the white guy not very nice with women ( at first Ciri )
It's been a while since I read them, but I'm pretty sure that happened in the books.

Not saying it isn't going out of it's way to tick all kinds of boxes though

Physically, I think Liam fits better - and seems to do OK in the action scenes. However, despite Geralt meaning to be emotionally stoic, he's not got that part right. Just feels off.

Otherwise, episode feels like a mess (first story telling bit is odd), the Rats are an acting misfit at the moment (maybe they'll settle into it) along with quite a bit of poor acting elsewhere. It's a generous 5/10 for me at the moment, only gained an extra point as I think the fight at the end was done fairly well.

I get the feeling most people who watched the show won;t even give it a chance anymore, and not just because cavils gone.
Cavil being gone is a double knock because he played a good Geralt and left/was kicked out because he didn’t like the direction. I think this just proves he was right.

I don’t know why studios pickup these fantasy series and then get lazy and completely ignore why people like it.

they think they have to adapt it and dumb it down for a main stream audience....
Everyone seems to have forgot Game Of Thrones was the biggest series for almost a decade without being massively dumbed down or having a limited cast because modern people can;t keep track of m ore than 6 faces.

all the new gens are probably watching peak 90s to 2010 series. I know Buffy seems to have been popular with the younger folk in recent years

GoT is definitely one of the best recent examples. Good story telling, great casting, etc.

Amazing that studios still haven’t figured it out. I know some shows do cater for people being on their phones; and we’ll probably get subway surfers playing along the side of shows soon.

They’re already shelling out millions on these franchises so why not do it well.

Liam Hemsworth sounds like he's doing a Chris Eubank impression for half of his dialogue.

There are a few bits where his dialogue has obviously been voiced over in post-production, probably to tune it closer to Cavill's version, and a few bits I'm not sure they haven't used a AI generation mashing his voice with Cavill's as there are odd words which have common AI mispronunciations where he pronounces the words fine in other contexts where it is clearly him speaking.

On another note one thing I can't unsee is that quite a bit of the series has been filmed in South West England, some bits I recognise other bits are just so distinct to the geography of this area I can have a good guess as to roughly where they were filmed on a map.

I've read all of the books several times, it's one of my favourite fantasy series - in spite of this I will still be watching this, even though losing Henry Cavill was a disaster, whether he walked or was pushed. I was reading last night that the showrunner said that Henry left because he was more interested in Superman and other projects and that he wasn't pushed out. Personally I think that is pure BS, he was indirectly pushed out by the incompetence of both her and the writers. Fantasy shows are not that thick on the ground so being able to pick and choose isn't really an option, so I'll watch them all and get whatever enjoyment I can out of them. It will be a while before I get around to watching this as I am currently doing a re-watch of Stranger things in preparation for season five. I may just do the same with this and watch it all from the start.

Been watching the next series. Liam seems good, although he doesn't quite give unfriendly vibe, possibly more direction and I think the script is weak so far.

With 40K and Witcher etc it does seem like Cavill is a bit of fantasy fiction nerd. Good to have someone doing what they find interesting rather than just playing dross.

Finished the season. I have never read the books, played about 10 hours of W3.

Liam Hemsworth is fine, give it a couple of episodes and he is fine, slightly more empathetic and verbal than before? Aquits himself well in the action scenes, if anything the scenes are faster than Cavill's whether actual or just sped up not sure but he certainly pulled his weight in the action scenes.

But, it's the tone and pace of the show. Dire horrible consequences, followed by a buddy cop episode? Ciri who is now part of a homeless community, with a tan in the cloudiest place on earth has a homeless makeover which is basically a model makeup section. Just such weird tones, choices of tone. The 2 'town bumpkins' featured in at least 2 episodes are just a straight rip from Pirates of the Carribean's two man comedy duo.

It truly feels like a different person and scriptwriter wrote each episode and they just had one line of the end goal to get there. All episodes feel so disjointed, not just tone but storyline they are working torwards etc Could be a whole random monster episode with a 1 minute monologue/exposition to point towards the actual aim. Just so random.

Still. I was entertained. I like monsters/magic/hot women and all that sort of stuff so I could make it through, but completely recognise it's flaws but have no obligation to the source material.

they probably did, often series have different directors, producers and writers for different episodes.

like a pool of them basically doing their own thing for a few episodes of a season
