How deprived is your neighbourhood ?

Strong evidence of the more deprived and uneducated an area is the more likely reform and similar parties do well - its what always happens in history, the more desperate a people are, the more right wing they go.

8000 in my area 'more deprived than most'
Agreed...

...although the many upside down flags zip-tied to the lampposts are also a bit of a giveaway.

they are also the most diverse areas where all the poorer migrants get put because the housing is cheap and the councils often own some of it.

but as always it's because they are uneducated not because you live in a bubble isolated from all the hassle it brings.

Your area, Wakefield 045B, is ranked 3,947 out of 33,755 in the 2025 Index of Multiple Deprivation (where 1 is most deprived and 33,755 is least deprived). This means it is more deprived than most neighourhoods.

Your area, Havering 013B, is ranked 16,145 out of 33,755

That's surprising tbh, I thought it would be higher, but it's slipped on every one of the five metrics they use except crime which is "better"

Who's in the top 1000 anyone?

Thats why the most deprived areas are all Labour strongholds, right?

8,203 for me. Which is "more deprived than most" personally I would describe deprived as high crime, poverty, destitution and its none of those its just not affluent middle class, corporate housing its mostly pensioners honestly.

A more deprived area than most bottom 15% for.
The immediate vicinity doesn't seem too bad, but now that I think about it, there are some more deprived-looking areas out of sight.

I don't think that is very accurate at all. My girlfriend lives in a properly posh part of rural Herefordshire, yet her score is 10 out of 33,755. Whereas I live in Stoke-on-Trent and mine is 8,915 out of 33,755. I think it must go on population density or something as her area is so sparse, I think her next door neighbours are about half a mile away.

It shows the categories the scores are based on at the bottom of the page. Income, employment, education, health and crime.

I suspect that "posh" areas probably take a battering on employment if a majority are retired or unemployed if they don't need to work, similarly with crime - expensive cars and expensive houses attract a lot of opportunistic crime.

Its probably also fair to say that those that are wealthy will probably eat and drink more indulgent and unhealthy things, which will bring the health score down.

Then finally if a lot of people in the area have had generational wealth, or have perhaps owned businesses that they've sold off then they may not have needed to bother with university and would rank lower on the scale. So the only thing a "posh" area might have pushing it up is the income category.

Yay but I improved from this when moving..

And my wife's cousins live here

Your area, Bromley 037A, is ranked 27,711 out of 33,755 in the 2025 Index of Multiple Deprivation (where 1 is most deprived and 33,755 is least deprived). This means it is less deprived than a typical neighbourhood.

No wonder they don't like coming up north

It's utter garbage, it shows Frinton-on-Sea as around 18,000, which is clearly wildly incorrect. I mean, it has gone downhill since the gates were removed and we got a pub and a chippy, but to suggest it's a deprived area is just bonkers.

"This means it is more deprived than most neighourhoods."
No, no it isn't.
18000 out of 33755 would mean its less deprived than most neighborhoods?

Im a glass half full kind of guy and find scoring Deprivation as some sort of award faintly depressing."Oh no miss i cannot do my homework, have you seen how deprived this area is." It is not a badge to be worn with distinction but an invitation to do something about it.
Litter picking, weeding the road gutters on your house frontage which the council have forgotten how to do, a bit of painting and maintenance outside and in. All add to the ambiance of a neighbourhood, a little neighbourliness as well.

Parents live on a street of detached houses owned by retired professionals in a thriving city.

I'm somewhere more densely populated and less wealthy but at least people mostly keep to themselves.

I'm so fancy!

In my quest to find no#1 and #33755, i've determined that the worst areas just suck all around, but the biggest factor affecting the nicer areas is crime. Due to the relatively small zones the data is split down to, even a single recorded crime can affect the final score of an area massively, so there's not really a huge differentiation to make between the top say 5000.

Does support the argument that we should be extremely tough on crime / militarise the police tho, Robocop style. Thank you, for not smoking.
