A House of Dynamite [Netflix]

pretty interesting

first part was great - especially Rebecca Ferguson, thought she knocked it out of the park
2nd part was good
3rd part didn't really add anything, except Idris agonising over what to do (which he did a good job at I guess)

suppose the payoff wasn't really there other than the obvious
that either response is flawed in this scenario, but I suppose if its just one missile why bother retaliating RIGHT NOW, until you learn more info? a full scale attack leaves you no choice but one is different, especially when you dont know who launched it

felt a bit let down that
we never saw what happened after three lead ups to the payoff moment

I watched this the day it dropped and really liked it. I definitely could have been better, but I like her documentary style and the way it was shot (Barry Ackroyd, usually works with Paul Greengrass) in a hyper realistic way.

Poor script, or just poor delivery, but 3/10.
I thought given the whole film was mainly people talking in rooms, it was a decent script. Not Sorkin level, but held it's own.
and the ending oh so predictable it was probably the a bit of DEI fatigue thrown in on top that just put that veneer of mediocrity on it..
Predictable ending? Really?

DEI fatigue? I'd love you to elaborate on that.. :o

Nah, it shows even Presidents are just people.
She’s not in the meetings with generals or advisors… has no intel, no context… he might as well decide based on the color of his pee. Including her was literally just DEI theater (I get it’s supposed to show a human element, but it’s terrible). They may as well have skipped the president entirely and called his wife if he can’t make decisions for himself.

This is just the classic ‘behind every good leader is a wife’ trope taken way too far. Including her in life-or-death decisions? Absolute theater

Each to their own, the parody level of characters felt unnatural and did not pull me in remotely.

Yes, at the end of the first viewpoint I immediately knew the most likely ending was as it ended up being.. Seemed obvious from the fact it was clear it was going to tell the story from all angles, leaving literally no time to develop any real ending other than leaving the audience dangling.

Identity politics is so rife in media these days that you end up half thinking is this yet another forced DEI political point being made, or is it a legitimate part of the plot?
For example when a white woman and white male stare on aghast that a black woman is picked as the DE I was waiting for the usual punchline, however it turns out the author was just trying to make the point about the randomness of who got picked, unfortunately having to double think what the plot point was, you suddenly realise that The Message™ has just sullied the ability to tell a good story these days.

Have you heard of Trump?

Give over.

I don't think he wanted instruction or anything like that, he just wanted to share the burden and have comfort in what he was struggling with. No matter who it is, decisions like that can break our minds.

he shoulda called her for a quick casual chat at best... or listened to an old voice mail

Lolwut?
It says a lot about you that you actually picked that out. Most normal people would see a story arc where a disaster planning expert is put on the evacuation/designate survivor list and gets to go in the bunker. But she was a woman and black so must be wokeness DEI gone mad. lol. How sad for you.

LoL.. you missed my point entirely in your fervered rant..

I even showed I understood the plot device being used, I merely pointed out that because of the endless push of The Message™ I had to ‘double take’ which is not a reflection of the film being woke, but Hollywood having caused fatigue within the industry due to its endless pushing of The Message™ which has caused it to tank hard for good reason.

The Message™
Just ugh. I’d hate to be you. Not even worth wasting the muscles in my fingers responding to this type of nonsense. Get back in the Disney thread with your mates and stop ruining this subforum already

Enjoyed part 1 as they nailed what it could be like if it truly happened and the amount of confusion / tension built up, if you want to see how they would really do it watch these:

After that seeing the same thing again from a different pov it started to lose the tension they carefully crafted the first 'turn' can see why the ending hasn't gone down well either.

first part tense and shocking
second part i like the trying to get the good intel in the right place (kind of like sum of all fears) but ultimately in only 20 mins you can speculate all you like but it doesnt help really
third part is really the president wrestling with the choice but maybe didn't give him enough to do with it to make it land? not sure on that part liked the other two

A long time ago there was a film called Failsafe. One of the best films about a possible nuclear war starting.

Quite enjoyed it until it ended, I had to rewind it a bit too see if I'd missed the ending
