Arc Raiders

Meanwhile the best extraction game is Escape from Duckov :D 204K on a Sunday morning while AR has 148K :)
AR has a higher peak however.

Thought I'd give it a go, not sure on extraction shooters, but I kinda like the aesthetic of this. CDKeys price was palatable with the points I already had accrued at a smidge over £20. I'll mainly be trying to solo it so this is going to be interesting.

Is the deluxe upgrade worth it? Seems steep at £19 on steam, almost the same price as I paid for the base game itself. I'm I going to actually benefit from it or is it just cosmetics?

Its basically just cosmetics, though you do get 2400 store currency which is equivalent to £15 to buy, so from that point of view it kind of pays for itself (if you are likely to buy any cosmetics from the store), the clint eastwood man with no name outfit for deluxe is cool too (imo as a cowboy fan :) )

What are people thoughs on ARC's sticking power, as somone that has put many hours in the Tarkov does this have the same depth?

With the maps, the usual pvpve gameplay, the very good performance (something tarkov historically struggled with), the trials, expeditions, etc, I'd say its got decent sticking power.

Not impressed so far, dont think I've made it more than 100m from start location. The one time I did, I was creeping about keeping a low profile when bam two drone things b-lined it directly for me. What even the **** is the point of this?

Well you did say you arent inclined toward extraction shooters, you've been FOMO'ed for sure :D

If you arent inclined toward extraction shooter gameplay loops, then I'd be surprised if a person would like it. Its like not being interested in colony sims and then trying to play Rimworld :D

Well I mean, you have to introduce yourself into something new at some point. Only other one I even has a try on was a couple rounds of Tarkov a good number of years ago. Seemed cool but never got round to getting it myself.
If you dont try stuff outside of your lane then you will never know for sure. However, seriously those ******* drones are stupid! Completely ruining my enjoyment for the game so far.

Any tips on doing that quest to destroy arc with grenades? The roller ball things are too fast.

The Arc in the game (drones, spiders etc) are designed to be a substantial challenge, not easy. You can stealth and keep line of sight broken in cover, or use bushes to hide in. If their light is blue they are on patrol, if it goes orange they are searching for you, if they're red they are locked on.

The game varies a LOT in the quality of each individual round, so you like me ran into several bad rounds at the start, which shouldn't colour your overall perspective of the game. As you have more you'll have a load of good rounds where you extract with loot, sometimes by the skin of your teeth, and it will be exhilarating to do so. Once you're familiar with the drone types you'll learn what they do, where they are weak, what weapons are best to take them down with.

Craft and take impact grenades, the little enemies are super easy with them, you can even his drones when they attempt to hover because holding the throw button shows you the arc it will follow and the impact icon if it will connect, I was helping xaldub do that quest the other day and smashed a wasp out the air with an impact grenade. They're super cheap to craft too, I always take 5 with me.

Is that the destroy a surveyor quest or the destory an arc with explosives? If its the latter, use sticky grenades and just blow up something easy like a wasp etc, if its the surveyor, it has a lot of armour, so use a weapon with high arc damage and keep in mind that when it rolls away, it will eventually slowly return to its spawn point, so wait for that rather than chasing it all over the map

True, once you know to avoid the drones scanning lights and hide in bushes etc and not run across their field of view they are pretty easy to avoid, though I still get caught out by them from time to time but thats a good thing , the "E" element needs to be a legit threat, not an afterthought or mere annoyance like in some pvpve games.

Approach it as more of a survival game, as PrincessFrosty said the Arc drones are tough and can be hard to take down. To take on the Arc you will need to upgrade your weapons and learn their weaknesses, also use your ears quite often you will hear things before you see them. Also make use of the free loadouts if you're dying and struggling for items/weapons etc, if you make it out with the free loadouts you can add them to your inventory. Also use the map if you're looking for specific parts, you have a better chance of finding certain items in specific areas and it's worth exploring outside of the main buildings.

learn the drones weak spots, for example the quad drone things - shoot the rear rotors off first, the snitches - the things that are scanning the ground, easy to kill but if you dont kill them quickly they spawn 2 more drones to contend with. If you dont need to kill them for quests etc it's better to avoid them, if you want to kill them then plan first, find a building to hide in and shoot one from a long distance, they will come to you and then you can kill them quite easily using the buildngs cover.

I had my concerns about this, but if it didn't click I could always refund inside the two hour window. Well those two hours whizzed by last night. I actually like the risk/ reward aspect much more than I expected, so far it's got me hooked!
