Hi guys, please can you help me to choose the best mobo for gaming that's compatible with the 9800x3rd and has all the latest tech.

I've decieded to go for the 9800x3d so just need to figure out the motherboard and ram now.

I was looking on overclockers and I like the look of the Asus X870 Max Gaming - https://www.overclockers.co.uk/asus...t-am5-ddr5-atx-motherboard-mot-asu-05168.html - £289.99

Is this motherboard ok, or would you recommend something else?

My budget is £200-£300.

I read some people say online that if you get the wrong motherboard you can lose 15% performance
Nah. Not for gaming, you'd have to buy a really cheap board for it to throttle a 9800X3D.

Long-run CPU intensive stuff with a high core count CPU, sure, that's possible.

and has all the latest tech.
What exactly do you mean by, the latest tech?

I guess the most recent features are:

PCI-E 5.0 graphics
PCI-E 5.0 M.2 slots
USB4
10Gb LAN
WIFI7

But, none of those matter for gaming. PCI-E 5.0 graphics can matter, but it depends on the graphics card.

Looks like a good spec, but pricey if you don't need the features.

Thanks for the quick reply mate.

Yeah I heard about PCI-E 5.0 but not really sure how that works.

I currently have a 5070ti in my 9900k build but I wanted a new CPU so decided to upgrade mobo/ram/cpu around a 9800x3d and go AMD this time.

Do you think the x870 will be sufficient for my needs then? And do you know if it has good sound and is stable?

Also I was wondering, since the 9800x3d is so popular, is there like a top mobo that everyone buys to go alongside this CPU?

With a 5070 Ti, you don't need to worry either way because the impact (of not running in 5.0 mode) is very small, but I wouldn't recommend you buy a board without PCI-E 5.0 graphics.

I'm not sure what features you need, but assuming you're just a regular gamer and haven't forgotten anything important, yes, it would be more than sufficient. I'd actually need a really good reason to recommend a £300 board.

Not really. A good midrange board is Asus B850 TUF-Plus or MSI's Tomahawk. They both have very strong VRMs and 8-layer PCBs. TUF is better for USB 3.x on the rear, since MSI like Type-C a lot for this gen.

If it had to be white, I'd start with MSI's Gaming Plus (~£150) and go up from there. Gigabyte's Aorus Elite looks reasonable for the money (~£190).

Waiting on Sapphire to release the ATX Pure in the UK (hopefully soon).

hahahahaha so im not the only one who is awaiting the sapphire pure 850a? thats reassuring that someone else is waiting as this means its more liekly actually going to happen and im not just imagining it lol
i so badly like the looks/spec of that board for the costings

Yeah, not because I want one, I just think it'll be a good pick for the money/spec like the existing boards :D

ahhhh makes sense lol
im hoping it does release and soon as otherwise i need to have another think
well if it doesnt il have to go with the nitro i guess but the pure would fit the build a lot more
even if i do have to use a riser and move my gpu [allegedly my cooler is gonna overhang the slot so il have to vertical or moveit a bit or something il figure that issue out though lol]

Don't think you need an x870e unless you need a specific configuration and layout. Personally I wish I'd have gone with x670e instead.
