Hi,

Im finding it hard to research and need some advice.

This is my current build
B550 Gaming x V2 Motherboard
AMD Ryzen 5 5600G with Radeon Graphics
Corsair 16GB 2x8DDR4 RAM
AMD Radeon RX 6600
Kingston 1TB SSD
Kingston 500gb SSD
Seasonic B12 bC 850 power supply

To play shooters like Arc Raiders, CS2 and maybe some Triple As at 1080p 120fps, what cpu would be worth upgrading too?

Budget id say is around 3-400 ..

I should add that, the reason I am asking this, is because I do suffer some stutters in games etc and was told it may be due to my CPU

Thanks in advance

Stutters are very hard to diagnose, they can be anything. Personally, I'd want to do a lot more monitoring of your usage and find out what they are, rather than throwing money at the problem.

A 5700X3D would be a nice upgrade, but since you only have a RX 6600 I'd be surprised if it made a huge difference, unless you're playing at low settings.

The other problem with upgrading what you have, is that DDR4 (at least, new) is currently very expensive and the 5700X3D/5800X3D have poor availability which is pushing their prices up to unrealistic ones (where with the high price of DDR4 combined, you're better off just switching to AM5 than dumping something like £250 on a used CPU).

Thanks for the post and info! I'm learning now! Switching to AM5 then, would that require a new motherboard?

is there a way i can optimize my current build to play the likes of Arc raiders comfortably?

With your budget I think I'd be looking on the 2nd hand market to max out your board and get a GPU.

Yes, you'd need DDR5 memory, motherboard and the CPU. That might seem silly when you have a decent build already, but with the high price of DDR4 and the poor availability of the 5700X3D/5800X3D, it may make more sense to get on the newer platform with future upgrades available.

I have no experience with this game.

If you could download some monitoring software like Afterburner (or even just use task manager) that might help to know where the stutters are coming from. That's assuming it is a performance issue and not some kind of driver/software problem. Worth mentioning that some games stutter because of the engine and/or they're **** and you can spend £2000 with no improvement.

This is really helpful and informative, thank you. Hopefully find a 5700X3D/5800X3D on ebay for a good price
