NVIDIA RTX 50 SERIES - Technical/General Discussion

All resources diverted to AI probably.
moores law dead also reported that Nvidia is going to EOL the Consumer 5090 soon(if you believe his source) and we all know why, would you rather sell it for £3000 when you can sell it for £40000+. I have a feeling until this Bubble burst or there is more AI competition to nvidia's product stack from AMD or intel we are in for more expensive gpu every generation for meagre performance lift and paying more for the same. Its going to like this for a long time, I predict next round is going to be even worse pricing and availability.

We know nvidia have been moving the product stack with the last generation but they’re going for the ultimate power play and two fingers up to everyone; the 6000 series will basically be the 5000 Super series :D

Well the 5080 barely qualified as a 4080ti so more than likely.

I was holding out for the 5080 Super, because that would be the real 5080, but looks like it’ll be another wait. AMD also working on their AI hooks but a good opportunity for them to make some ground in the gaming market.

Well my month old 5080 FE has died. Was away for the weekend, fired PC up this morning and the post screen was weirdly distorted and then froze on the loading spinner. Repeat a few times and then it won’t even output any signal.

Usual diagnostic steps, and the PC boots perfectly fine off the 265k iGPU. Tried reseating 5080, still dead. RMA time, wonder how long this is going to take :/

They usually have cards put aside for RMA etc so hopefully it’s sorted swiftly for you.

I’d expect a new card this week.

Using a riser at all? Or straight into the PCIE slot? Have you tried manually changing the PCIE gen in the motherboard BIOS? Weirdly I've seen something similar and swapping to Gen 4 - then back to auto sorted it out.

I had to RMA my 3070 a few years ago and they sent me a replacement out the same week so it shouldn't be too long!

It is in a Fractal Terra using a riser. Tried reseating and checking all the fittings. Not tried BIOS yet. Have contacted them for an RMA, but will have a look at BIOS update.

If you can, I'd try it without the riser to see how it goes.

I've moved away from using risers as much as possible (currently using an Ncase M2 swapping from my old Formd T1) because the little headaches they were giving me weren't worth it.

Can’t not use a riser in a Fractal Terra. Tried reseating the riser. BIOS updated, set to PCI gen4. Still dead.

This, might save you a bit of hassle.
It would be a massive hassle to change my case at this point, I can’t just remove the riser.

Yeah, I get that you can't not use a riser in the case - but your best bet is trying the GPU in the actual PCIE slot, not with the riser.

If it was me, I'd be doing the frustrating part of disassembling the build from the case so you can try the GPU straight into the PCIE slot - at least you would know if it's a dodgy riser or a dodgy GPU at that point (or dodgy motherboard...).

Well as much I really couldn't be arsed as I've picked up Covid at the weekend at a festival (the price of fun)....I just dismantled the build and fired it up with the GPU directly into the motherboard, and it's still dead. Corrupt graphics on startup and then freeze when the loading spinner starts....then nothing.

Typing this now on the system running off the iGPU, all fine. 5080 is dead.

That's a pain then, RMA the only way now.
