My best friend’s wife Kelsie sadly passed away last week. It’s been incredibly emotional, she was only 31 and leaves behind her husband and their little girl, Renae, who’s just 3. It’s brought back some unresolved trauma from when my partner was unwell with Leukaemia.

Kelsie was one of those people who made everyone feel special. She even sang at our wedding, and we’ve got so many lovely memories of her. The hardest part is her death was the result of an NHS blunder, which makes it even more heartbreaking, as it needn’t have happened. My friend has been off work for the last two years caring for her full-time, and he’s now facing the pain of losing his wife along with real financial struggles. He’s created a GoFundMe to help with funeral costs and to give Kelsie the beautiful send-off she truly deserves.

Here’s the news article covering Kelsie’s story

Go Fund Me Page removed at the request of the Mods.

I’d love to get this to target, and if you can donate, even a couple of quid, it would mean a lot. And if you’re not in a position to, please just share the page, it all helps. I hope this is allowed.

I’d really love to try and get this story into the mainstream media to raise more awareness and support for them, but honestly I’ve got no clue where to start, so if anyone’s got any advice, I’d really appreciate it.

Thanks for taking the time to read this.

From the OP

from the gofund me page
yea I saw that but the news article clearly says it was an NHS blunder that led to her having a year to live unless she got a bowel transplant.

surely theres already been a payout? or are the NHS resisting and this is for funding a legal battle.

Both the OP and the gofundme states its for the funeral. The gofundme was set up 2 days ago, a couple of days after the lady's passing.

I see no mention of a legal battle.

so are the funds being raised for legal fees?
They never had a compo payout?
The funds are being raised purely to help with the funeral costs. There’s an on-going legal case but it’ll be a long time before any settlement is reached. Evidence from the autopsy is being collected to support the case.

Edit: I’m more than happy to answer any questions. He’s using a no-win no fee solicitor but they will take a percentage. In the meantime, he’s in a bad financial place due to quitting work to support her. She never had any insurance as she was unable to get it due to her cystic fibrosis- which is unrelated to the situation.

To add, in the end she needed a bowel, pancreas and liver transplant as things progressed. Cambridge told her there was no chance of finding the right organ donor and even if a doner was found, she likely wouldn’t survive the operation - she then became too unwell for any transplant anyway so she chose not go on the list and to have a bit more time with her family instead.

That poor woman. I feel so sorry for your friend and their daughter. It's just not fair.
Thank you.

It’s truly devastating. His pain is just unreal. He’s staying with his family at the moment as he simply cannot function. They are taking care of him and his daughter.

I am sorry for your friend's loss. Found it quite difficult reading this story honestly. The result of an NHS blunder is truly horrific and heartbreaking. Not fair at all.

Thank you. It’s been devastating, especially when it could have been prevented. They did IVF for so long too. It’s just shockingly cruel.
