New Build Advice - 1.7/1.8k

tbh i'd rather get a 7800x3d from china (just bought one for £178)

I can totally understand why some might be conflicted or even afraid to pull the trigger on a China buy in fairness.

Hell I've done it before and my limit is the £100 or less, picked up some super cheap 7500F's.

Edit: Don't get hung up on cases, I've bought some for £50 that were on par with cases £100-200 +.

the sideways ones were a fad or they were actually good.
sideways are more common nowadays because they look prettier, can see the rgb bling bling on the fans and have front glass for that fishtank style look
in terms of raw cooling performance, cases with front mounted fans are likely to be better in general
however, the difference isn't that large, so in this instance, form takes the W

The fishtank cases use reverse flow fans in some scenarios, but also tend to be built with the intent of a large AiO doubling up for heat exhausting in the roof.

Heat rises, the main point of X airflow is for the GPU aiming for Y exhaustion, but you also need to consider the possibility of build up in a closed environment.

It's partially why hot running modern Nvidia GPU's have weird exhaust fan at the arse of the card.

Still rocking the plastic glass protector eh! :D
Now that I've read this, I have to admit myself that I still have the plastic protector that goes round the edge of my monitors I bought over a year ago now.

Though it's actually worse than @tamzzy's in the sense that mine doesn't really protect much, so it's pointless leaving that stuff on them

I've left it to just pretend that my monitors are still brand new... :D

You both need to be sectioned TBH.

Right quick one, messing around with builds at the moment in black. I had the dominator ram in my first post. But I’ve since been recommended the crucial one, is that fine would something else be better?

Also 850w for psu is that going to be fine?

Could you do an update on the intended spec?

they're fine, i wouldn't have recommended it otherwise ;)

also not really needed to shell out £190 for a mobo. the b850 eagle i listed is perfectly capable and £40 cheaper

The RAM and PSU look fine to me.

Right that’s good.

I’ve just been trying to work out if all is good.

So normally always gone Gigabyte on everything I can get as the RMA has always been good. No idea if that’s the case now, but I don’t see many recommending for the 9070xt but Sapphire instead.

Also I put the B850 Aorus Elite is that really needed? It’s got WiFi 7 don’t really intend to use WiFi but is it worth it over a cheaper aorus? Also went thermaltake aio seen it’s been recommended a lot otherwise was looking at the Assassin mentioned.

Just trying to fine tune items so I get what I need and not something I really won’t make use of. If I save enough doing so might even go higher ram or a bigger ssd.

Which cheaper Aorus? You mean the Eagle? Afaik, the main downsides with the Eagle are 1Gb LAN, one of the M.2 slots is just 2 lane and half the rear USB ports are USB2. VRM is also not great, but adequate for the 9800X3D.

From a quick look at the Aorus, it has better sound codec (not necessarily better sound), rear optical/SPDIF, stronger VRM and more USB 3.x on the rear.

I'd say that's more of an aesthetic choice than performance. They will both cool the CPU comfortably, subject to fan curve adjustments (assuming you mean the peerless assassin).

but I don’t see many recommending for the 9070xt but Sapphire instead.
Not super familiar with Gigabyte's offerings, but the Sapphire has a clear advantage: it is the cheapest, though the Prime and Gaming OC aren't far behind. I'd personally rather have a Prime or Pulse than a Gigabyte card, unpopular opinion maybe to prefer Asus, but the Prime are doing well from what I've seen. The Gigabyte cards tend to use sleeve bearings on most models (historically anyhow, 9070 XT doesn't say) which is one of the reasons I don't look at them since I'm a bearings snob from the mining days. I was also unimpressed with the PCB cracking issues and the leaking thermal goop (don't believe either of those apply to the 9070 XT). One thing I do like about Gigabyte, their Aorus models have a 4 year warranty.
