Ford Focus production ends after 27 years

Surprised at this, with the amount of the road it's not like it's slowly being not bought by the public like the Mondeo was.

I see far more Focus, Mondeo and Fiestas every day than I do the Puma etc. Quite a few Kugas too though. At least other manufacturers haven't abandoned the estate and hatchback but it is a poor trend towards these oversized cars that offer little more in practicality. When we're all forced into them the perceived safety and superiority aspect will be lost.

I learnt to drive in a MK1 Focus (with the AA). My instructor went private just before my test and I passed in a Clio that I had never driven before. I still see a Mk1 on a weekly basis, they really seem to have lasted the test of time compared to some.

I suppose this marks the end of the "hot" versions also. Only "ST-line" silliness left.

Nope, it was rapidly not bought by the public when a 1 series BMW was the same price.

The Focus was all about transportation for the masses but the masses now want an SUV or a crossover.

TBH I remember similar sentiment when the Sierra went and later the Escort. Ultimately none will care in the long run and rapid versions will be owned by "Fast Ford" fans who are an eclectic bunch.

Seems a weird choice. Mundane crossovers/SUVs are now the only option.

Hot Fords are known for their good steering. But that's lost on crossover thing.

My first car was a 2003 Focus 1.6 Zetec petrol (due to the love they got on this forum) and I absolutely loved it. It felt weirdly premium considering most of mates had 106s and Saxos.

It handled fantastically for a fairly basic hatchback and the interior build quality was much better than most of the cars I've owned since.

It also proved very reliable over the years I owned it. My mum inherited it and actually managed to run it for about 2 years with almost zero oil in it.

Even now when I see a MK1.5 on the road, I have a real hankering to buy one.

rip : more of a mondeo man, which friends had as company cars.

Mach-e is still going on - hatch cross-over as is needed for rear passenger space, outside it is nice design, under-bonnet a bit Frankenstein.
unfortunately looks wise none of the current fords do anything for me. the Mach E Was almost as big a disappointment to me as the Capri was (looks wise)

if I was looking at a focus segment car now (and not looking to go EV) I guess I would be looking at a golf or maybe a BMW 2 series.

Ironically mach-e has more capri exterior DNA than capri ? - the bonnet ribs & grill some from Aston;
mach-e had had high insurance when I looked, and only just breaking £20K in used market, but the drivetrain is first generation versus capri with vag550.

I'm coming round to accept that until we have SSD batteries the nostalgic low saloon package (even hot hatch) focus/mondeo cannot be ressurected, with the superior aero
and Kwh/m that would deliver ... 2030 for magrathean re-awakening

End of an era for sure. Generally fantastic cars, apart from the gen that have the door seal hanging out the door issue. :)
Had a few in our family and they've been really solid cars generally speaking. Scrapped a 2002 one a couple of years ago that had done well over 150K. When they came out the chassis design and safety improvements were advanced as I recall.

Absolutely loved my Mk1.5 1.8 TDCi despite it blowing shed loads of unburnt diesel smoke out the exhaust on every cold start. There's something truly special about our first isn't there?

Absolutely the end of an era, RIP Focus.

my mate had the full on Ford ASBO along with a BMW M3. Both were fantastic cars, but that Focus was a proper thing of beauty imo. ..... when he got rid of both of them he claimed he missed the Focus more than the BMW.

that said..... I am a bit of a chav at heart and some would say i dont have much taste :D

We've had Fiestas and Mondeos and they've all been great cars to drive. It's sad to see the Focus go now. Like many here, I genuinely don't know what car appeals to me from the current Ford line up. The Mustang is nice but niche, and you can probably get better cars for the money.

Had a MK1 2.0 petrol Focus Ghia loved that car had plenty of punch for a car that size, then moved onto a 1.8 MK2 Focus bought it in 2017 when it was ten years old and had only done 15k as it had an elderly owner before me who used it as a second car. did nearly 70K in that car before I sold it for a Mondeo estate. Maybe I'm a bit stuck in my ways but I want a Hatch or estate not some SUV thing I think estates are just as if not more practical than a giant SUV.

Ford is basically dead in Europe now.

Very weird considering they were almost seen as a "British" brand for the best part of 60 years. I also don't think we will ever see a plant the size of Dagenham in its peak in the UK ever again. In the 80's and 90's over 1 in 4 cars being sold on our roads were a Ford.

Ford managed to reinvent itself in the late 90's with the Focus and others cars but I cannot see them doing it again.

Sold my Focus today, and although it's only a car and was a means of getting to work and back, I'll probably miss it a bit after 7 years of ownership..

For smiles per mile considering the cost, with that 5 pot turbo engine, there's not a lot out there to beat it for ***** and giggles.
The original ASBO car
Buy one now before they rocket in price.
