NVIDIA RTX 50 SERIES - Technical/General Discussion

Sold my soul to the Devil today, ordered an upgrade to my Founder's 3090. Went for a Plait 5090 as am having frequent run out of memory messages trying to generate videos using Comyui. It is a massive improvement in speed since using Visions of Chaos and premade workflows are a boon too. The work Abandoned Films is doing has piqued my interest, I expect their work is done using cloud based solutions.

The downside is my photofit of my activities in the local Halifax to finance my purchase.

Go the whole way and get a 5080, Good card.
That was what I was thinking. Would be good to try out a 5080 just a shame its only got 16GB the same as the 5070Ti

How is a 5070Ti £850? Thats awful value at that price.

The 5080 is terrible value too at £960.

The best options are a better priced 5070Ti at sub £700 or a 9070XT at sub £600.
I got my 4070Ti in March 2023 (release time of the 40 series) and at the time the 4070Ti was £848.99. Prices where stupid then but I got the Zotac as it had 5 year warranty.

The 4070Ti worked fine but it had an issue with the RGB flickering, turning on when it should be off or going mental when it felt like it. I could have disconnected the RGB cable but that would require me to take the card apart and for the amount I paid I wanted it fixed.

Due to the card being EOL I have been offered a full refund. a 5080 at £960 would cost me an extra £110 (maybe less with Back Friday next week)

If I’m spending almost £1k on a GPU it should have more than 16GB as a minimum.

As others have said on here, get a 9070XT or 5070ti and pocket the change.

Whatever you decide, purchase sooner rather than later as RAM price increases will hit GPU’s.

Couldn't agree more, 16GB should be mid range with a mid price, Not £1k.

Nvidia have always been this way regarding vram, they just seem to give as little as they can get away with. I seen some guy say that in battlefield 6 at 4k with the overkill settings it can exceed 16 gigs.

800 watts? Better get that fire extinguisher ordered!

Seems to be running on everything but Astral OC (Black Variant) /TUF/ Astral LC - & Suprim Liquid so I'm outta luck of testing it out.

Tried flashing it earlier but no luck.

If you have any other 5090 seems to be ok.

Was just interested to see how much extra performance you get out of it.

Will wait for other peoples results.

I do wonder about that 800 watts :D

But I'd also be interested to see the results, whether the silicon tops out or whether there's a lot of untapped power in these cards. The 5080 can already have the snot overclocked out of it.

Well as much I really couldn't be arsed as I've picked up Covid at the weekend at a festival (the price of fun)....I just dismantled the build and fired it up with the GPU directly into the motherboard, and it's still dead. Corrupt graphics on startup and then freeze when the loading spinner starts....then nothing.

Typing this now on the system running off the iGPU, all fine. 5080 is dead.

Have you tried turning off rebar?

I've been keeping up with people flashing their 5090's with the new 800W Matrix vBios

anyone on here done it?
Yeah, no issues on Waterforce AIO.
Cant flash to Asus cards or Suprim Liquid so far...
Not looking to run card at high watts, but at least no power limit now at 600W and higher boost clocks for free ...
