5800x bottleneck for 5070 ti

You can still get 6000 CL30 2x16Gb for under £150. Are you wanting a specific brand?

If you aim to get an X3D model, they are less dependent on RAM speeds/CL

i know nothing about ram, which set of ram can i get for the 9800x3d which isn't going to cost me a kidney? afaik when it comes to ram i don't really need to care as much about brand, right?

The Crucial Pro kit for £129 is fine and one of the cheapest at OCUK right now. Gibbo said they're nearly gone and the restock will be a lot more, so whatever you buy, I'd get it soon or you'll be waiting/hoping for a deal on BF.

What will I lose purchasing this over CL30?
It is highly situational, but for the most part: nothing you'll see. That said, you're sensitive to the framerate and especially the percentile lows and play FPS competitively, so you may choose to pay the extra regardless.

Just an update, after watching DDR5 RAM prices completely explode in price I've been looking out for a 5800X3D. I just found one and purchased which is in good condition today, I may of paid too much but I panicked because they are hard to find which are in decent condition.

I really hope this helps with the bottleneck which the 5800x has been causing and that I won't regret the purchase.

One last question, when it arrives what steps should I take. I already updated bios a few months back so do I now need to remove chipset drivers for the 5800x which is on my control panel?

I'm sure you will be happy with it. The purchaser of my setup couldn't believe how much of a difference there was in the games he played compared to his 5800X.
It would be good to hear your thoughts.
No harm in removing old drivers and updating though.

If you have any specific bios settings make a note of those. When taking the cooler off sometimes the thermal paste is a bit sticky. Undo the screws or clips to the cooler and twist before pull out. Re install the chipset drivers don’t remove them. Even if they are the same version.

I seen you have a MSI X570 Tomahawk. You will have a feature called Kombo Strike when you install the 5800X3D, enable this and set to level 3.

When i had my 3080 i had it set to level 3 and never had a problem, but when i swapped it for a 9070XT i had to drop to level 2 due to instability.

Hopefully you will be ok on 3 but if you do find your system becomes unstable try level 2.

The guy I purchased from seems like a cool guy at least too, so it should be in decent condition. He said he is sending me some noctua wipes and thermal paste to clean up my old cpu with.

Never heard of kombo strike before, is it only available for X3D chips or something? edit: yeah now i know why i never heard of it, 5800x doesn't have the feature. thanks. kind of worried touching stuff like that tbh.

You will be fine doing kombo strike mate, my 5800x3d is on level 3 and has been running like a champ since i have had it, its not difficult to do in the bios mate, plenty of vids on the tube as well.
