*Quietly judges people who need to tell you Die Hard is a Christmas movie*
;)

Films decent, a bit over rated and definitely not a Christmas movie*

*I’m strong on this opinion for the sole purpose of winding people up, I’m neither here nor there otherwise

I'm generalising here, but..

Every other Christmas movie is just some (sometimes very good), romance, comedy or slice of life set at Christmas.

Why people can't handle an action Christmas movie is beyond me.

I've watched Die Hard a few times but never around Christmas time, so it never occurred to me that it's a Christmas film. I still like it though because I like action films.

For it to be a Christmas film, imo, Christmas needs to have more of an overlay. So I wouldn't class Frozen as a Christmas film either. Christmas territory would be the likes of the Snowman, Santa Claus and a Muppet's Christmas Carol.

I've never heard anyone class frozen as a Christmas film.

What about Home Alone?

Why is Home Alone a Christmas film and Die Hard isn't?

I dont think its agreed Die Hard isn't, is it? Seems there's 2 sides to that one.

But Home Alone, from what I know since I haven't seen it, has a lot more references to and general Christmas festive atmosphere, than the brief references to Christmas in DH, hence its generally accepted as a Christmas film.

Just because people disagree with your opinion it doesn't mean they can't 'handle it'.

You're correct, I phrased it poorly.

My point is that the genre of film seems to be what makes a lot of people decide if a film is Christmassy enough for them or not.

There are a lot of 'christmas films' which are rom coms and dramas that have nothing to do with Christmas besides being set at Christmas. Which is an argument I see used repeatedly to disregard Die Hard as a Christmas film. Yet the people using that argument would still class those other non action films as Christmas films regardless.

Like Bridget Jones, just a movie about a spinster

As much as any other Christmas film. Love Actually, for instance, is just a film that takes place around Christmas. In Die Hard, it being Christmas is actually integral to the plot.
