Qatar Grand Prix - Lusail International Circuit

Qatar GP: Lusail in a Nutshell
The Qatar Grand Prix takes place at the Lusail International Circuit, a 5.419 km track just outside Doha. Built in 2004 for MotoGP, it became famous for hosting the first-ever MotoGP night race in 2008. F1 joined in 2021, and Qatar now has a deal to stay on the calendar until 2033.
Circuit Highlights:

16 flowing corners and a 1.068 km main straight—perfect for high-speed battles.
Fully floodlit, making it one of F1’s few full-night races.
Surrounded by artificial grass to keep desert sand off the racing line.
Built in under a year for $58 million, with over 1,000 workers on site.

Past Winners:

2021: Lewis Hamilton (Mercedes)
2023 & 2024: Max Verstappen (Red Bull) – including a Grand Slam in 2023 (pole, led every lap, fastest lap).

Trivia:

Fastest race lap: 1:22.384 by Lando Norris (2024).
Top speed recorded: 362.4 km/h down the main straight.
Lusail’s lighting system was once the largest permanent sports lighting project in the world!

Qatar isn’t stopping here—future plans include more fan zones, sustainability upgrades, and keeping Lusail as a desert jewel for motorsport.

With both Norris and Piastri not scoring at Las Vegas the title fight is wide open.

I wouldn't say "wide" open. Norris can still come 3rd even if Max comes 1st in the next 3 races (2 gp and sprint) and win the title.

Max certainly has a much better chance after the dsq of the McLarens, but it's still likely going to take a big mistake or more bad luck from Norris for Max to win it.

Max knows he has a chance now, so if him and Norris end up actually racing wheel to wheel I’ll expect this will have to be decided by the stewards.

I think strategy will change after Vegas. Lando will either want to disappear the front or be happy letting Max do his thing and come runner up. While we all want to see the action, the title is easily won from second place so why bother?

Nice to have some races back on at a watchable time - for me at least :)

True, but Lando has a 24 point lead. He can finish 3rd to Max and Oscar in the last 2 races and still win. He doesn't need to get in to any 50/50 situations... assuming he can qualify and start well, of course.

Mandatory 25 lap max-limit for the tyres at this race. Pirelli soft cheese strikes again.
I got bored of trying to figure out if that was official or not yet. Because it was, then it wasn’t.

Assuming it is — that’s a nice way to nullify McLarens advantage of being nicer to their tyres. FIA really showing their hand this year ;)

A bit like FIFA and Ronaldo

The decision was made by Pirelli not the FIA..

That article is written very strangely. I think we all know the tyre manufacturer is not making the decision. They will give their findings to the FIA and the decision will be made from that

You didn’t/couldn’t read the article so came up with your own conspiracy theory, were then corrected by someone who has actual facts, now you’re the leading expert on Pirelli and FIA relations

I’m still not convinced that you actually watch races.

I think it’s fairly obvious to anyone that Pirelli didn’t come in and say “maximum of 25 laps in each tyre, thanks lads”. The FIA are in charge, Pirelli are one of a few tyre manufacturers and are technically a vendor that can be replaced if the FIA so wishes.
