Cyclist crashed in to car - what now?

Surely the police will only provide details if there is legal action in progress?
Sorry, late back to this.

They'll provide details as soon as you (threaten to) complain that they are refusing to provide details of a party in an RTA to which the police have provided a crime/case number. Guaranteed result as its an offence not to provide details etc. Its one of the buttons plod don't want you pushing as it generates ********* of paperwork, and everyone dealing with "paperwork" gets "stained" ;)

Do me a lemon. Drivers kill and hurt other road users at a ridiculously higher rate than cyclists, cause horrible pollution and cause a host of problem. Walking my children to school down multiple 20 zones I am passed by people doing well over 30 on roads that are single file because of parked cars (reasonably often blocking the pavement completely because hey, who gives a **** about people with pushchairs or in wheelchairs). The other day when I was walking down the main road at least 3 cars went past going 50 in a 30. I was waiting to cross the road with both my boys in a pram and a car flew into the side road I wanted to cross doing 30+ (entering a 20) and came within about 50cm of us. We were on the opposite side of the road to the one he should have been on.

So yeah, politely **** off with the idea that its ok to dislike cyclists or that its our own fault people hate us because some of us are dickheads. People hate cyclists because they have been conditioned to hate them by the media and the complete focus on cars and complete lack of focus on active travel.

If people didn't like cyclists for rational reasons, they would absolutely hate drivers. Shockingly we don't hear comments like yours from people about drivers. Cyclists are just one of the last groups its OK to publicly despise without people thinking you are racist, sexist etc.
whilst there may be some with an irrational "hate" (bit of a strong term but what ever) of cyclists, personally i only get angry at the ones who take the ...., drunk on the roads, or out at night with no lights or hooning it down the pavement or running red lights etc etc etc.

the ones who actually show a bit of consideration to other people - pedestrians and other road users - i am absolutely fine with. however you skin it tho, in THIS instance, whilst the cyclist may not be at fault, it is his equipment which failed and damaged another persons property, and as such it sucks that it would appear there is no recompense for the OP. 1 thing is for sure..... its not the fault of the OP

I don't think anyone has suggested otherwise have they?

The discussion has been around the fact that the actions of a single cyclist are attributed to the whole collective which never applies to drivers.

"Cyclists are never held accountable". Sometimes they are and sometimes they aren't. Exactly the same as drivers. Someone scraped down the side of our car while it was parked outside our house the other month. Got out of her car, checked the damage on her car and then wandered off to do her business, came back and drove off.

A lot of people are simply dickheads. They are dickheads on bikes, they are dickheads in cars. Its pretty much as simple as that.

Do you think so? I think people like to use sterotypes regardless.
Living around Cambridge and working alongside a lot of cyclists i hear plenty of hate against <expletive> car drivers, and woe betide anyone in our team who dares have a pop of cyclists or mention things like being drunk on them or ignoring rules of the road, not signalling, not having lights etc, even the police turn a blind eye to them as its not worth the hassle (from personal experience seeing it, AND hearing it from the horses mouth)
.
(i got accused of driving a filthy aluminium box of death once because i - safely - overtook a pair of cyclists on a at the time 60mph road who were 2 abreast on the way to work) I genuinely have no idea what i was expected to do, sit behind them for a mile maybe on an almost straight road?

(my response was that i wish my car was posh enough to be made of aluminium :D )

I even bit my tongue that they were ignoring a custom made cycle lane - and one that in this instance is very well made, and fit for its purpose.

Dunno if he's blocked my text messages so I whatsapped him. Sent him the police report number, the MIB claim number, and told him that I've added the costs for a Claritycheck to the bill, as well as repairs, legal fees and loss of income for having to take time off work to get it fixed.

It absolute tosh ofc, but at least I know he'll spend the weekend panicking and worrying about it.

good, you gave him a chance and he's being a little sausage over it.

Yeah it's proper deep, not a polish job unfortunately.
fair, from picture bits of it look deep others not as deep and something that polish could blend in.

I'd say get a smart repair, my mate does them and the finish is very good. Cheaper than insurance / bodyshop.
