Hi guys

Looking for a new gaming pc for my son with a budget of around £800 (could stretch to more if need be)

Ideally prebuilt as its been a long time see i touched a pc but if I get more for my money im open to building myself.

What do you guys suggest?

I know bad timing but its what my sons asked for Christmas and I've been holding off for black Friday as normally a few deals are posted around the Internet. Can we expect them to drop in price next year ?

I'd have a hunt for anything that hasn't been priced up for the new RAM, otherwise that kind of budget is tricky right now.

Ideally for a new gaming PC, you'd get AM5 (for future CPU upgrades), like a 7500F or 7600, alongside a 16GB card like 9060 XT or 5060 Ti. This would be great for 1080p and good for 1440p.

In the circumstances, you're unlikely to get that. So, maybe a 12400F/14400F or 5600, with a 5060 8GB or 9060 XT 8GB.

A self-build (the price of the DDR4 is very painful):

CPU cooler in the CPU box.

If WIFI is not required, then there are cheaper boards, but keep in mind they won't take much of a CPU upgrade before they overheat. The one in my spec does at least have a heatsink!

My basket at OcUK:

Total: £808.92 (includes delivery: £11.98)

Thanks for the reply. Much appreciated for the full breakdown

What would you recommend if I went am5 route for future proof so I can see the price difference and if its worth paying more

I think you'd be better off buying the Mach 2 or 3.2 (currently showing as in stock with no RAM pre-order), 'cos the cheapest DDR5 32GB in stock at OCUK is nearly £350 :o

Is the rtx 5060 Ti a good upgrade from 5060?

Shame I couldn't remove windows from the builds to save a few ££

Yes, it is around 10-15% faster in raw performance assuming there are no VRAM issues with the 5060 and the 16GB variety should last a good amount longer than the 5060 8GB, while often being enormously faster when the VRAM is exceeded on the lesser model.

8GB cards are not something I'd want to recommend anymore (especially beyond 1080p), but a budget is a budget and RAM is munching them all.

You can skip to the final thoughts if you want (timestamps included).

If you are gaming at 1080 resolution, which J recommend on your budget then J suggest getting an AMD apu which has combined graphics with the cpu such as AMD Ryzen 7 8700G Eight Core 4.2GHz (Socket AM5) APU with Radeon 780M Graphics | OcUK https://share.google/5Yg8E4BZFct9Xjo
Later you can then add a more powerfull graphics card and use this solely as the cpu
