Upgrade from 25 inch 2560x1440 IPS? I don't upgrade often!

Hi all

I got my trusty Dell UltraSharp U2515H 25" 2560x1440 IPS about 10 years ago and this was an upgrade from the legendary NEC MultiSync LCD20WGX2 which I got in 2006....so as you can see I don't upgrade very often but I reckon 2026 could be the year... maybe January sales...

Anyway I want to go OLED but can decide on 27inch 1440p or 4k at 27 or 32inch, so I'm worried that sticking at 1440p won't feel like much of an upgrade especially on a larger screen so lower PPI and then on 4k I'm worried that I will always have to turn game graphics down a lot or run screen at 1440p (I don't often upgrade my GPU either) I have a AMD RX 6800 16gb and don't want to change it now....

Game wise I usually get older games on special but have liked playing BF 6 in beta/free trials on max settings so might buy that for new monitor....

So what do you guys reckon? Go big upgrade to 4k and just turn settings or res down or just stick with 1440p?

Also if anyone wants to shout out recommend models that would be good so I can take look!

Thanks all!

I think it very much depends on your appetite for gaming.

If you are mostly playing single player games, or similar non competitive (or for example you play BF6 casual and don't really care about getting every edge) then 4k is fine.

If you are chasing frames then stick to 1440p.

I personally think 1440p is still the sweet spot, 4k needs really beefy hardware to get high performance.

Hmmm ok, I'm certainly not chasing frames or even slightly competitive....been happy with 60hz/FPS...

Have you considered an ultrawide? There's some well priced 3440x1440P OLED's at the moment and your GPU would handle the resolution well, I'd not go 4K with it and assuming I did I'd want at least a 32" monitor.

I actually own a variant of this and find it to be fantastic:

My basket at OcUK:

Total: £449.99 (includes delivery: £0.00)
This is interesting...I do like the ambilight thing as I have a Philips TV... would have to see if that would fit on my desk!

Yea I mean I play PUBG and run it at 140 FPS and you need that consistently.

If you are playing something like that you need consistency and high FPS.

You are not going to do that on 4k unless you got absolute top end hardware, actually PUBG is not the best example as it's terribly optimised and more CPU bound anyway, but you get the idea.

Although an advantage of 4k is you can then watch 4k content.

If you are happy at 60hz then I don't see why 4k wouldn't work, I been playing ARC with my mate he runs at 4k, 9070xt and latest gen AMD CPU (but NOT the 9800 or whatever that beast CPU is) and he's getting 80fps on that which isn't bad at all.

I'm getting 140fps at 1440 though, with slightly older hardware mind you.

Ok, I'm not going to be watching 4k video, the monitor will just be used for gaming and work...

The backlighting on the monitor is nowhere near as pronounced as with the TV's, but it is a nice little feature.

Great monitor, I've had mine for almost a year and I'm very happy with it.

Sorry can I ask do you have any issues with text clarity?

Also is it wall mountable? I have vesa 100x mount currently.

The high PPI of 4k at 27" is very nice indeed. Get yourself a decent monitor and you won't notice the pixelation if you run it at 1080p.

You might also consider ultrawide monitors: the common one is 3440x1440 but there are also monitors that show 5120x1440 and 7420x2160.

Text clarity is fine on my end, but I don't really use it for anything work related currently so your mileage may vary if you need to crawl through tons of text.

Yes, it has Vesa 100x100 compatibility if you want to mount it.

I'm pretty sure the model reviewed here uses the same panel etc:

Productivity is entirely natural with the 34M2C8600. The panel curve is benign in that it neither enhances nor detracts from document editing. There is no image distortion in text-based apps like Word or Excel. Photos and videos look the same as they do on a flat screen. Except, of course, there’s that OLED contrast. It makes text pop and dials up the sharpness to where, again, you’d swear it’s 4K.

If you need backlight get a bias light. Not expensive

Irrelevant when a monitor comes with one while being extremely well priced for what it is.

No just buy bias light once, they can use it for every monitor change. I've used mine for four monitors now

Cool cheers for info...it does look good... I can't get one until January so hopefully another sale then...

I guess only negative is that it's been out for a while so might be a new one incoming...

I got the Philips Evnia C6500 yesterday but I thnk it'll be going back unfortunately, text doesn't look quite as clear as my LCD and as I'll be using it for work some of the time, I think I'll end up with eyestrain pretty quickly.

i use a 32 4K but in windows i have it set to 1440p. it's fine. if i wanted i could up it to 4k for in game. Most pcs for the last few year can do 4k at 60. 4k at 27 is too small imo (for text). as an infrequent upgrader you should go for 4K.

Soo many games now have built in upscaling. So if you switch upto 4K, a lot of games can continue to render at 1440p, and upscale, but the HUD which requires virtually no power is rendered at full native res and looks nice.
That's what I plan on doing when I get my new 4K monitor.
