I'm a pc gamer so not a clue what to look for to ensure my nephews PS5 will use VRR on a new monitor for him.

I got him a PS5 recently and found the gameplay is not as smooth as I thought it would be...found out his current monitor (Asus TUF 1080P) doesn't have HDMI 2.1 ports.

So I'm looking to upgrade his monitor to once that does use this feature but also up his resolution to 1440p from 1080p.

Any recommendations please? Budget is around £200

Personally TV's seem to be most sorted when it comes to console VRR, HDR dolby Vision/HLG etc so I'd probably look at a TV for that.

Whenever I've read PC monitor reviews they all seem missing some console features (until you get into OLED monitors)

I see..thing is he doesn't have room for a TV in his room. But I'll look at mounting one on his wall. Thanks

Best have a look at rtings reviews, they usually test xbox/ps5 consoles. You'd want a monitor with HDMI 2.1 support, most of the budget models lack this feature. for example this one doesn't support 4K @ 120hz

If you get stretch an extra 30 quid, the XG27ACS from Asus is a great 1440p monitor for the PS5 - or it might drop to 199 this week.

It's a 27" 1440p 180hz IPS monitor and, whilst it has HDMI 2.0, it fully supports VRR on the PS5. It also has variable overdrive as well - so it means on the PS5 you get a great looking output from 60hz all the way up to 120hz.

The only downside is that HDR support is pretty much non existent and you might get unlucky with backlight bleed (the usual risk of the IPS panels!).

Other option is the AOC Mini-LED VA panel which is 1440p as well and will be a much better HDR image - although I don't think that has VRR support.

Now that's confused me...how can HDMI 2.0 support VRR? Has the ps5 had an update that allows this? I thought you needed 2.1 minimum

Nope, it's down to the monitor manufacturer as to whether they've supported for it at HDMI 2.0 level. Some don't bother as it's not mandatory.

HDMI 2.1 just made it mandatory for VRR to be included/supported - but there are plenty of HDMI 2.0 monitors that support VRR.

Great choice with the AW2725DM, especially at that price!

OK since my nephew now has the best monitor in the house I must upgrade to trump him lol

Looking for the same but OLED

Seen this and looks good to me for the price

I’d look at one of the new tandem WOLED monitors if you’re after 1440p OLED! That one you’ve linked uses one of the original 1440p OLED panels so is very limited on brightness.

The new Asus is (imo) the best with its glossy panel, great stand and OSD. The LG and Gigabyte models are matte - but both are still good and worth considering.

Is this one WOLED?

There doesn't seem to be a section for WOLED

Nah, that's a QD-OLED. Still a great monitor though and if you were picking between that one or the other Asus you linked then I think that MSI model is a better choice. Alienware also have 2 options at 1440p QD-OLED (280hz and a 360hz) - with the 360hz being on offer right now.

The current tandem OLEDs available are below - not sure if Overclockers are selling any of them just yet. The Gigabyte model was cheap (for an OLED) the last few days at 479, the Asus looks to be out of stock until January and the LG seems available - but at a higher price right now.

Gigabyte MO27Q28G
Asus XG27AQWMG
LG 27GX700A
