Watched it at the cinema, only 2D Imax. 6 of us in the screening.

Was the story shockingly bad? Wouldn't say it was awful but it lacked depth. Would have been a lot better if they'd followed on from Legacy instead of reboot x3. Had more of an immaturity aimed at Ready Player One level storytelling than something a bit more sophisticated.
How was the acting? Over the top. Not great casting. Leto looked lost, the enemy was a wet lettuce, the heroes were just there. Felt like it had the wrong characters for the film.
Visuals? Great as you'd expect. Really good work on one of the later scenes to fit it all together.
Music? Loud and overpowering, what I wanted it to be, but felt a bit disjointed. Part of the time it lacked build-up or didn't really match the scene but still good.

Overall it didn't really connect well with the original two apart from a few set scenes, the rest was done through summaries or news style reporting rather than proper character development.

Will I watch it again? Most certainly, but Legacy was better. From the reviews I was expecting it to be worse than it was, it started off slow but then got better.

This is exactly my take. I'm a mega Tron fan, saw the original in 1982 in the cinema and was blown away. I liked (but didn't love) Legacy, and to be honest Ares was ok, much better than the reviews. I enjoyed it, I didn't look at my watch once, the visuals were amazing, some good action sequences, and it had some good concepts, expanding on what we've seen from the previous movies, and some of the implications of the digitizing technology.

Would I have preferred them to take up Sam and Quorra's story? Yes, but it does allude to that, even leaving that open for a sequel.

I wish I'd seen it in IMAX 3D now, I may even go back to watch it. I'll definitely buy the Blu-Ray when it's out and I hope it gets a 3D release.

Booked in for Imax tonight.
Shocked at cost of Imax now.
I get free cinema Tickets with lloyds which brings Imax down to 8 pounds .

No way would I pay full price (15 pounds a person!) for a film that's probably 7/10 at best.

No wonder cinemas are running at losses!

This was a blast. 85/100

Trailer was dire. But really enjoyed the film!

Only 4 other people in the Imax. Sound was waaaay too loud. Like I think illegally loud. Never been in a film so loud.

It had story, and epic sfx and an insane soundtrack. Many nods to the previous films.
It wasn't outrageous (I mean it stuck to the rules of the lore IMO)

Just a really fun watch.

Edit.
Just looked at the reviews.
Rotton tomatoes:
Critics 53 percent
Audience 86 percent.

The typical for films I like! Critics suck!

I read a few threads or reddit posts, can't even remember where saying it was crap and it was all Jared Letos fault.

Personally I neither hated it or thought he was terrible. Infact I quite enjoyed it.

I'd probably give it a 7/10, and not one of those everyone starts at 5, 7s. If a film is barely average it's getting a 3
