Hi all

New here - was originally looking for 32gb of CAS 30 6000 (16gbx2) but that's now a bit much tbh. Where is the relative value in the mkt? Go smaller at 2x8gb or go for higher CAS sticks?

What CPU will you use it with. What is the use case? Gaming/productivity? Budget?

X3D so speed isn't as much of an important factor as with other CPUs, but of course it has a limit.
HUB did a comparison a while back, for gaming it isn't massive differences in most games so you'll need to look at what you want to play.

For video editing, not my field but I don't think you'll be getting away with 16GB so you're likely looking at a slower 32GB kit but do look into the apps you use.

Cheapest 6000 in stock after a very quick search is about £240, 5600 for about the same. Personally, I'd go for 32GB of 5600 or above, whatever you can justify price wise, try looking at the 2nd hand market. whatever you do make sure you still buy 2 sticks not a single stick with thoughts of upgrading later as that'll tank performance.

You generally want to avoid 8GB DIMMs with DDR5, there is a performance reduction vs 16GB+ DIMMs, even if you're not using all the capacity.

Pricing hasn't settled yet so no one knows.

Used market only tbh, and even that’s ruined.
There’s a lot to be said for buying a used PC setup with DDR5 in it, and selling off the bits you don’t want, as some still haven’t repriced adverts yet.
I have even seen people talking about selling the ram to fund a new gpu which is madness as prices may stay the same or worse for years

I do have a spare Kingston 6000 cl36 2x16gb kit which I bought for £115 two years ago, I would sell it if price is good.

If you're going to sell RAM, don't bother selling it yet as the prices ain't even reached its peak yet
Give it a few more months and it'll probably be worth its weight in gold
Still available at the odd place surprisingly at decent (compared to other sites) pricing for 32GB 6000, but saying availability August 27.
Usually you get items earlier than that when it has estimates.. I wouldn't be surprised if they have already had tons of orders by now.

One already says unavailable that was there last night and partially into the morning, even with that date as an estimate

I just sold a few PCs recently, but still have some left. Definitely holding on to everything else until extreme doom pricing kicks in next year.
