Why are Evri are so absolutely abysmal?

I think EVRI & DHL UK are now merging
Evri and DHL eCommerce are indeed merging - DHL eCommerce isn't to be confused with 'proper' DHL Express though.

Since UK Mail became DHL Parcel UK (and then DHL eCommerce) it's been a nightmare knowing which is which - DHL Express is very good as always, but DHL Parcel UK / eCommerce are just as much of a car crash as UK Mail were.

evri are great in my area.. driver is friendly and always leaves parcels in the right place. Previous address in this town had a different driver and he was also great.

They're having a shocker here in NI at the moment, closed a bunch of community hubs to open a super hub and it's all going Pete Tong. Plumbing problems, reports of tons of boxes say left in the rain and anything damaged because of that, it just gets binned with no report to the customer nor supplier so customers have to wait an undetermined time before having to reorder.
I've an office chair showing as collected on the 27th, "We've got it" on the 30th then radio silence. It's our od stock now and I have zero confidence it arrive now. Why anyone uses these *********, I'll never know as it only hurts their reputation.

After my last DHL ecommerce faff they've got another (rather expensive) parcel from John Lewis that they were supposed to deliver Monday. They finally put it in a van on Wednesday then have been driving it around the counrty side every day and not quite getting to me, dread to think what state its going to be if/when it turns up this afternoon... (maybe)

Just reading one of the recent BBC articles on Evri and found this cracker of a quote
A spokesperson for Evri apologised for Ms Selmi's experience, and said her first port of call should be with the retailer.

"In line with the Consumer Rights Act 2015, the retailer or sender is responsible for the parcel being safely received," Evri said.

"Any issue should be raised directly with the retailer or sender. If there is an issue with a delivery – as there was in this case – we work closely with the retailer to ensure the matter is resolved, whether that is a refund or a replacement.

Now I may be very wrong, but whilst it is true it's the retailers ultimate responsibility to set things right, it's the courier (evri) who keeps messing up, and the only option the retailer has to avoid that is to stop using evri.
Which I suspect is not quite the message that Evri Corporate really wants it's PR spods to be sending out "we're unreliable, get your retailer to use another courier".

More here, Evri rated worst for customer satisfaction again. Quelle surprise.

Panorama full programme on them to be aired/available tuesday:

I've had a bit of an odd experience with them lately where on the one hand they'll hit a new low but on the other hand do something unexpected to fix it.

For example a few days ago one of my parcels with them went out for delivery over 100 miles from me but when I contacted them they said they were already aware of the problem and were going to expedite it so I'd receive it the next day - which I did. Unless that was some dubious way of covering up a delay .

I'm trying to avoid them but unfortunately some sellers don't mention who they use.

I work for Amazon and see the cleanliness of all the haulage companies trailers and one stands out as the most unkempt. Evri

Despite over 20 years in total working in and around the industry I don't think I've seen their haulage trailers close up (obviously they didn't exist as Evri all that time - don't recall if we used Hermes when I worked dispatch for Screwfix).

Will update again.

Evri locally are really good, with all my deliveries being sent to a local drop off and as seen many times a local lady goes out in her car during the day and evenings to ensure parcels are delivered.
Royal Fail are keeping their record of being terrible and unreliable locally, with a recent fake claim to have attempted a delivery at 07:00 to meet the target set by the sender (no video evidence) and then finally taking an extra two days to deliver because I selected a local PO, with them not bothering to send me confirmation of their drop.
Amazon have improved locally, with nearly all deliveries going to a local shop.
Yodel deliver my barrels and glasses direct to my partners office and so far have been quick and tidy.
DHL Local are also reliable as is Parcel Express.

If I could lose one and replace their service with another delivery service, it would be RM

Just heard about it this morning, didn't realise they spent money and actually opened a new hub. Apparently huge amount of parcels with names addresses etc are just being stacked up and not being delivered.

like most of these companies its the luck of the draw depending on the local delivery people near you. (touch wood) EVRI and Yodel have both been fine for me. our local Yodel person is a neighbour and i go their their house to pick up missed deliveries sometimes and their hall and landing looks like some weird christmas scene (where they had run out of wrapping paper!)

I am not excusing the bad eggs at all at these companies.......... however their pay is shocking and that in a large part has to come down to the higherups in the company themselves for cutting their pay so much that they are in single digit £s per hr after expenses.
We also have to take part of the blame...... I dunno about you but i am always looking to get the cheapest delivery possible (and the price of things like stamps etc really cheeses me off) but constant penny pinching is also part of the reason they pay so badly i presume and the old adage pay peanuts get monkeys rings true.

i wonder if they need to restructure delivery....

Pay for "cheap" delivery and it goes to a collection point, and have various warehouses within a few miles of an area.

and if you want door to door delivery you pay a premium. The delivery drivers get paid a little more to hopefully get a better service but the customer still has the option of cheap delivery but they have to pop out and grab it. if a driver only has to make 1 drop to deliver 40 parcels at a depot for instance then they will hopefully treat them a bit better and will be able to make a decent salary even if only paid £lol per individual package..

I find with EVRI it all depends on your local delivery driver at the time. I have had good and bad ones as they seem to change very frequently.

What I don't understand is how some companies are happy to send orders worth £££ with EVRI, especially fragile items as they never turn up in 1 piece.
