The nervous wait to exchange....

If you haven't finished a project in 10 years, and have been in good health etc., it is 100% from a lack of conviction. Kids or not - 10 years is a monumental amount of time to refurb a bathroom or decorate a space. I was specifically responding to Feek's grand designs comments; I never said people with children lack the conviction to get things done. Not attacking anyone with that statement - it's just how it is for most people that fail to get things done over log periods of time.

Two examples: someone I know half did their house and their back went FUBAR. Never finished the house in 20 years. It's still not finished. That's not a lack of conviction - that's a lack of good health. Another mate of mine did his bathroom a year ago but still hasn't put the bath panel on or installed a floor because he "can't be arsed and it works now", and he doesn't have children. It's obvious which of the two lack conviction. I didn't think that stating the obvious was necessary in that regard...
right, sorry I wasn't referencing not finishing a project in 10-years or grand designs, just mentioning that it takes longer generally to decorate with kids around

Oh that last 5% is the hardest to do because, I assume, its "good enough". Our friends haven't done anything more to their bathroom in about 2 years. It still doesn't have a damn handle on the door! Skirting isn't finished, panel isn't on bath. You've got to have a lot of conviction to complete these sorts of large renovations if you are doing them yourself for sure.

Exactly... That is precisely what I've been referring to. This is the mindset that people fall into and that's how things remain unfinished for so long. That final 5-10% is so important because the job never looks good unless it's 100% finished. It is conviction and sheer willpower that complete that final 5-10%.

Woohoo we have exchanged finally, has taken two days to get it done, due to some admin stuff in the chain not getting a date in a record or something, so took the step of booking my removals yesterday only to find the firm we had a quote for were now booked, cue calling around 13 other removal firms as we needed a packing service and have 2200cu/feet of stuff to move so most little companies not something they could do.

But move date is sorted, got broadband install a day or two later, so yay :)

Congratulations!

Having everything packed for you is worth every damn penny. Those guys are like packing machines! I would recommend it to anyone moving.

Yeah will be the first and hopefully last time move, so getting them to take out that level of stress and not having to sit in a sea of boxes for weeks/months has been great.

We are ready to exchange! I need to give them which date works best for us regarding removals etc and we only have the 17/18/19th as options now. And of course, now no one is replying to emails or answering phones regarding removals :D

If I don't hear by lunch time I'll just have to give them a date and book a Luton van hire.

To be fair we are in a small 3 bed and don't really feel like it would be the end of the world to do it ourselves, but I wanted the less hassle approach

*Heard back from removals now, they can offer 17/18th so we shall see if that works for our buyers too (only us and them in the chain)

Now to start properly worrying about packing

Definitely don't have enough boxes.

Did the garage the other day so that's ready

Another update, expected to exchange today but now there's apparently a revised plan missing from the solicitor at the top so we are awaiting to see if that can be produced. 17th now off the cards so if it's not sorted early tomorrow, we will be looking at January. I'm fine with that but we just want to now now. Very anxious not knowing where we stand.

Our buyers really wanted before Xmas and we have done all we can for them so will feel bad if it doesn't happen. Even sped things along by hand delivering signed docs every time instead of posting them back as the solicitor is only 30mins away.

Ahh well let's see what tomorrow brings

Everybody wants to get it done before Christmas... I wouldn't sweat it even if it slips into January. You could push to exchange and complete with a smaller/no gap if you also wanted to get it done before Christmas. Solicitors usually complete around the 20-21 as their last date in my experience. That can obviously vary one solicitor to another.

Yeah ours say final day for completion this year is Friday the 19th and they require 1 week between exchange and completion.

Honestly I'd rather it be Jan, I just want to definitive answer so we can get on with Xmas shenanigans or pack. We were trying our best though for our buyers as they are really keen for pre Xmas. We will see, should have a final answer tomorrow :)

Considering how slow the RM is these days you've probably saved yourselves weeks! I think we are lucky to get one delivery of letters a week now.

Yeah they sent stuff to us,it would take a while, And I said many times I'd be happy to collect if they give the heads up but never did. My mum lives very near so I was tying in dropping off the letters with visiting her :)
