Currently rocking a 7900xtx and mainly playing rts games and the odd bit of cities skylines at 4k

I keep longingly looking at a 5090 but the pricing seems utterly loopy even with the recent drop in FE pricing

9070 is a “side grade” imho

Which leaves me in a very privileged but itchy spot.

Do we have any sign of a 9070xtx on the horizon? Or do I just complain bitterly hold my nose and hand over the cash to Nvidia?

Doesn't look like it.

Nvidia have probably killed off their Supers after the recent RAM frenzy, which leaves even less motivation for AMD to bother.

Rumours suggested it would have offered little beyond more memory anyway, 'cos there's nothing left unlockable in the 9070 XT's die.

In the same boat as yourself, got an itch to scratch but had to slap myself, would have liked a 4090 but there 1800+ and i cant justify that for a used card that if im honest i dont know if id tell much difference, few more pretties in BF6, already getting 200fps as is so it can wait.

Same here, 7900XT so anything that'd be a noticeable uplift (and even then, probably only noticeable in UE5) would be close to £2k so won't be upgrading any time soon.... might treat my card to a waterblock at some point around when the warranty runs out, if I can still find one.

Edit: Maybe not, looks like they're already gone from the places that were stocking them and around £160 direct :(

Check the famous China shop, especially when they have deals on, blocks can be had for any half that!

Echoing others, I'd stay with that 7900xtx. It's a superb card still and, as you allude to, the performance bar graph is absolutely saturated around the 7900xtx with not much else until the 5090 (at which point price is ludicrous).

I've told this story here before (the same others have to tell)... I had a 7900xtx just after launch. I then moved to a 4080 - side grade. I then moved to a 4080 Super -- side grade to a side grade. I should have stuck with the 7900xtx for the extent of last gen. I ultimately did move up to a 5090 at launch, but that was well beyond rational reasoning on price, and I expect I'll be using it for the next two years at least.

And I would in no way be considering the 5080 trap. I would qualify that card in the same bracket as the 7900xtx... for much more money.

Yeah, unfortunately, that's where I was looking, there's a few 7900 blocks still on there (mostly Byski), but not the sapphire pulse/nitro variant... They were about £110-120 from memory when they were there.
Thanks for the suggestion though :)

Tbf the stock cooler isn't bad anyway, but I do miss the near total silence (and looks) of a wc gpu!

I thought I saw some recently for that block as I've been looking and they had them for about £80ish?

Just found one for the 7900 XT Pulse

Keep thinking that it is time for an upgrade BUT nothing rows my boat so have decided to wait till next gen. (running a 7900xt) - the upgrade itch is a b.....!

They've just put the prices up, so wait a bit, also buy it from the coins page, normally a lot cheaper
I'm not in any rush, if I do then it may well be in a few months anyway.... Can get by on an aircooler (for CPU) until then.
I wasn't sure what you meant by the coins thing, but had a bit of a read. I've never bought anything there so assume that wouldn't be any use to me?

You get free coins by checking in each day and doing other things, I've managed to save a lot of money buy using coins and their vouchers

Wait for next generation as this current gen is considered poor for upgrades if you already had a high end card from the previous gen.

This can't be an objective decision, we all spend money on this stuff because it is emotional and subjective. Go with what you feel is right and what you want. With the state of things, its impossible to give an accurate prediction on how next gen will line up both from an uplift perspective and pricing.
