DRAM Prices Surge 172% YoY with No Signs of Slowing Down

I think you're naive not to be wary of the "cloud" future too. This is what the likes of Google, NVIDIA, Microsoft, Meta etc have been building toward for years. And they are being backed by western governments as it will facilitate surveillance / monitoring of all data in the "public" domain.
Something that maybe useful to watch for people thinking the industry is healthy and "doing great", a lot more issues than just price of components going on.

How do ethics fit with digital innovation? - with Jeroen van den Hoven

Yeah, I'm expecting we'll see some adjustment in other components - I was pretty close to going 9950x3d/B650E, until RAM went mental (would be needing 6000C30 or there abouts, I know x3D isn't so sensitive, but still)
I fully expect some other bits will dip, especially cases, as they're bulky and low value, so if people are building less systems I'd expect them to nose-dive until they clear stock.

I don't game much anymore, but the one demanding game I keep coming back to is ARK:Survival Ascended (and evolved, but that's less demanding).... I have enough hardware to survive a few failures:

CPU: 5950X, 3700X, 1700
GPU: 7900XT, 3060ti, 1070
Mobo: X570, X370, B350
DDR4: 64GB, 32GB, 16GB dual channel kits, plus an 8GB and 4 GB stick of various speeds
PSU: 3-4 above 750W

Not in as good a position as that, but if I had another CPU & PSU I have enough spares to cobble together another PC to keep going for a little a bit longer in case of failures.

I've advised the rest of the board of directors where I work that my 2026 upgrade and enhancement plans should either be moved up to.... well, right now, or postponed until 2027/28 as they will be unaffordable next year.
Cue a long discussion where Director of IT Rilot has to explain to people who's literal job title contains the word 'business' or 'finance' how supply and demand works and how markets are global.

I wonder how it will impact general pc hardware sales, not much point upgrading your CPU and motherboard if you can't get any affordable ram.

Might just stick with my 3700X and change out the 1660GTX for an AMD 7900XTX

Certainly not going to have a good effect, companies like OCUK could be in for a rough couple of years.

Nail in the coffin for home PCs i think. Next we'll be getting yet another bloody "subscription" service to hire RAM use or some crap.

That's what they want, you'll just have a monitor and you'll subscribe for different tiers of performance. Big companies love subscription, and others have proved people will put up with huge increases, look at the likes of Netflix, Adobe.

Lifetime guarantee from Teamgroup but I'll have to ship to Taiwan.

I'll update on Monday

As long as you're the original owner should be fine..
I've been testing the RAM I have, and the 2x32Gb Corsair stuff has one faulty stick, but not being the original owner means I'm SOOL...
At least most of the other stuff I have is fine, I'm almost tempted to stick the 32Gb and 48Gb SODIMM's and the 32Gb DIMM in the oven and see if its just a case of dry solder or something, like people used to do with XBoxs' back in the day, nothing to lose that this point... :D

I am first owner.

It was imported from USA as it was the only kit I could find in stock at the required speed that was less than 33mm high - a requirement due to SFF case and CPU cooler covering ram slots.
